We just got our kitten yesterday and I am really scared because she has vomitted twice today. I called a vet and they said it could be from her shots. She is really tired and doesn't want to play. I am really nervous. Has anyone else experienced this? Thank you so much.

Stellasmom, I'm glad to hear that you called your vet already. Mine didn't vomit after shots, so I'm of no help to you. I'll move this to Health & Nutrition where others with more experience can help you.

I am not sure why your kitty is vomiting, but I have heard that can be a complication with shots. I am glad you called your vet.

i was told by my vet that it is normal for a kitty to not want to play and to sleep alot in the couple days after shots but they shouldnt vomit...although, my kitty vomited once, very little, after her second round of shots, right after we got home, the vet had told me that if she vomits within the next 24 hours of her shots to bring her back in, so i called and told them, it was a tiny amount and it was food, so they said she probably just ate to fast, if she did it again bring her in, she never did, and she was fine, i agree with allissa, the vomiting could be from anything, but if she keeps doing it you need to take her back in...

Some cats do experience a little lethargy after the kitten shots, but vomiting is a new one to me ... what is she eating? Is it different from what she was eating at the place where you got her? What about her water? Now the all-important question and for those who might have a snack while reading, don't read on ... what does the vomit look like? Is it clear, does it have a color, what kind of texture is it, is it hairballs - some cats who were used to a colder environment than a normal household will go immediately into shed when introduced to a new, warmer home - the added grooming of a cat in shed can be the culprit if you detect fur in the vomit. Gross, I know. But necessary to determine what is disagreeing with kitten's system. Are there plants or other things kitten can chew on that might be upsetting her? Are you giving her "people food' at all? What about milk or milk products? Do you allow her these?

Sorry to seem so invasive with the questions, but let's see if we can figure it out. If it persists or seems to get more serious, of course, your FIRST call is ALWAYS to the vet.

Do you know how to check her temperature? If you pinch up a fold of skin on her back does it sllide back into position quickly? If it is slow to slide back or stays tented you need to take her in right away. If her rectal temperature is over 102.5 or less than 100 she needs to be seen right away. But if she is still drinking and doesn't seem dehydrated and doesn't have a fever, she will be Ok to wait a little and see.
