I just scooped my kitty's litterbox and found a stringy thing about 3 inches long. At first I just thought he had swallowed some string certainly wouldn't have been happy about that) but I looked at it closer when I couldn't discern exactly what it was. I think it might be a round worm- was hoping someone could help me confirm. It's yellowish in color, very thin, smooth, and looks like its filled with some dark goo (in fact i squeezed some out of one end- gross!)

I have already made a vet appt and will be bringing in some feces for testing (along with the worm thing which i retained in a baggie in my fridge- gross again!).

I know worms are easily treated- and my cat has no signs of ill health at all. Should I worry at all about it? I read roundworms can be transmitted to people. I only worry because sometimes he puts his paws on my mouth in the mornings to wake me, plus of course i do handle him often- just wondering how easy this can be contracted.

Thanks!

You more than likely don't have to bring the worm with you to the vets, it sounds like a roundworm. Depending on how bad the infestation, you will probably see some being vomited up as well. Roundworms take generally a few treatments to get rid of

Should I be worried about infection?
