Fur? - Page 2

Why do we need to wear fur? Synthetic materials are so good these days you can't tell the difference! The only way you know it's not fur, is because if you look at the reverse side of the materi8al, it's on a weave material, not hide. I was horrified to see in Monsoon they were selling real fur. at least I thought it was real - I even did the age-old test of blowing the fur to see how it parted. Only then did I see that it was on a weave, not on a hide. So the need to skin animals is what, exactly? I reckon furs look much better where they're meant to be. On four legs.

I don't wear fur because I just don't like it, not even fake fur. The feel of it goes through me unless it's attached to the kits I can't remember the last time I bought a pair of shoes made from real leather (I don't like the smell).

I know of people who have terrible foot odour if they wear plastic/man-made material shoes. Leather shoes breathe and alleviate the odour. My feet get sweaty and sore if I wear non-leather shoes.

Yeah I know that one Although I dont wear leather I dont wear plastic either - wow- foot odour is a polite way of saying it! I tend to wear fabric shoes i.e. grossgrain. We all make choices in our lifestyle and as long as those choices are well considered then so be it. And no I dont think your a bad person for eating goose pate and wearing a rabbit on your head

I'm not into fur. My mom had some fur coats. We also found a bag of furs in the stuff that might have been my stepgrandfather's. I don't like it. I don't care if anyone else does it. I have some leather jackets, and boots, and chaps cuz my mom was a biker, 2 of the jackets I bought with my money when I was going through my 'biker phase'. I don't wear them now though. I'm not into it anymore.

I wish people wouldn't raise animals for the reason of their fur, and mistreat them in their short lives. I have no problems with anyone who feels otherwise. I just wish it wasn't that way.

It's been so cold lately, if I had the money I would get myself a full-length fur coat. Brrrrrrr !

I went to an event in San Francisco when I was a teenager. My mother had a fur coat that she had borrowed from a friend. It was squirrel fur of all things (didn't realize they used such small animals). Anyway, it was so cold that she let me put it on - let me tell you with the possible exception of Down - I don't think there is anything warmer. I understood then why some people wore fur.

I don't think people mistreat or abuse the animals that are used - why would they take a chance on damaging the fur ?

I wouldn't wear fur. I do have a couple of leather items (gifts), so maybe I'm a hypocrite, but I figure the cows have already been used for meat.

FYI - A few years ago I saw a "Dateline" show about cat & dog fur being used in stuffed cats. A hidden camera was placed at the export location (I forget the country). The American reporter said that Americans may not be willing to knowingly buy cat and dog fur. The items were exported with either no tag identifying the type of fur or mismarked with "rabbit."

These items are still being sold at import stores, outlets, and flea markets. Many of them look like sleeping cats with pink plastic noses. They're very cute and cat lovers may purchase them not knowing that it is REAL cat fur!

The show had some video of the cats that this fur came from. IMO, they looked abused. They were in small cages, on top of each other and all appeared very thin.

You don't have to hit a living thing to abuse or mistreat it. Not all abuse can be seen in bruises.

I think if the whole animal is being used then it's OK. But things like minks and foxes doesn't sit well with me. They're bred specifically for their fur and i just don't think it's necessary. Killing an animal for fashion is appalling - for warmth i think it could be OK. I'm fence sitting a bit because i have never been anywhere really cold so not sure that you need fur even in those climes. That's about the only justification i can see for wearing it.

There is an Australian designer that was crucified by the press recently because she has started using possum fur in her designs. There was an uproar because they are cute little things but apparently they have reached epedemic proportions in NZ (which is where she is sourcing them from). Again i haven't really formed an opinion as yet as they are culling these (to protect their native animals) so i kind of think it could be a good idea to at least use them for their fur but that seems pretty horrible. As i said i can't decide between my practical don't waste things and my emotional they have every right to a long happy life side.

Absolutely not.
