I was just wondering about the computers we all use!

Most of my friends use PCs, but I use Mac, as I find that it has a LOT more potential for the graphics, film and art projects that I do for uni!

What computer do you use and why did you decide to use it?

(This is my first poll, so if it is rubbish, I am sorry!!
)

I do also use a PC, but my own computers are Mac! So I chose Mac!
if that make any sense!!

I used to have a Mac in high school because that's what we used, but then halfway through I got my first PC laptop and I've been converted.

I'd love to get an iMac because they're so cute, but because they're not completely compatible with everything I hesitate and stick with PCs... I know that lately Macs ARE becoming more compatible, but still...

But that's just my two cents.

Yeah, I LOVE my iMac and my iBook, but I must admit there are a few Monopolys (sp?) going on!! I was under the impression that in the US, compatibility is a lot better than here in the UK!

I wouldn't go back to PC though!!

Would you like to get one? I was thinking, if you are a student or know a student, you can get great discounts direct from Mac (actually, they never asked for any evidence from me??) or you could get one on eBay? I got my iMac from Mac Warehouse and my iBook from eBay for a fraction of the price!

Oh and was that
aimed at me???

PC definetly. Macs don't have enough games out, and their designs are a little crazy.

Later,
Brandon

I was actually raspberry-ing the PC oriented world.. but that is one hella-mean raspberry dude!

yeah, I could, but It's still pretty expensive for me, especially if I want the adobe programs that I need.

How's this?

That is a better one!!
The other was pretty mean!!

You can buy slightly older versions of the Adobe programmes and then upgrade, it's cheaper that way - or see if you can get a student license offer!

PC.

I don't think I've ever used a Mac, though I have several friends who do and who swear by them. One issue they don't have (or at least, it's minimal) is viruses. However, I manage to get around most of that by using M$ products as little as possible, esp for browser and email, and make sure my anti-virus software is up-to-date. Can't get away from Windows in the PC world -- well, I suppose Linux, but I'm too lazy to relearn on that scale.

Why?

Default/Inertia. [1] My first computer was my office computer -- 1985 (an 8 MHz Sperry, with 10Mb hard drive and 256 Kb RAM, that cost over $5,000 !) -- and for business purposes nobody was even considering Mac.

[2] When Rob bought his in 1990, PC already had market domination, and therefore the best selection of software, and Windows was just waking up and becoming something desireable. (We don't need to talk about what happened when M$ got arrogant and ...)

[3] I actually inherited this beast from my Dad when he decided he couldn't be bothered anymore with it. (We had hoped he'd be interested in the Internet, when it became harder for him to get out -- especially on his own.
Not for everyone
)

After almost 20 years of PC why would I change? I don't do enough graphics stuff to make it important, and I'd still have PC in the office. I just
M$ as often as I can.

PCs and Macs are designed for different audiences. That being said, I am a member of the PC crowd. To be a little more opinionated, I would suggest that anyone using a Mac NOT because of their far superior graphical capabilities, is playing for the wrong team. People have touched on the BIG issue in a minor way, but realistically, in this fast paced demanding technological world, compatibility is EVERYTHING. And Macs just arent compatible, not as a whole. You can always work around compatibility issues true, but why pick something that would result in extra work for you? If mac is able to make significant gains in the hardware side of the market, perhaps the software side will catch up, or at least pay any attention at all towards mac computers - and not months after PCs have had the software "first".
