Hi,

I think I'm going to try a Nutro brand food for my new kitten. I noticed that they have two different types of kitten food. Does anyone have experience with these foods and could you offer any recommendations? The Roasted Chicken Max Kitten food sounded tasty (maybe because I like roasted chicken!) but I tend to like things to be more "natural." Right now I have her on Iams Kitten, which she won't eat.. she keeps going after the adult Iams that my other girl is eating.

I feed my cats Nutro and honestly I dont think there is much different from the max cat and natural choice. I have one of each can of Nutro in front of me right now and the difference I see is the Natural has 1% more crude protein, 1% less fat, 1% more moisture, and 1% more ash, if that means anything to you
As far as the ingredients, they both pretty much have exactly the same.

My kittens do well on both Max Cat kitten and Natural Choice. They also enjoy the Natural Choice in the pouches ... the little chunks are soft enough for little teeth. Best of luck with your baby, let us know how it goes!

Hi,
The differences between the Max Cat Gourmet Classics Roasted Chicken dry food for kittens and the Nutro Natural Choices Complete Care Kitten Dry food are these:
- the natural choices has corn gluten meal as the 3rd ingredient, not the second, and also has menhaden fish oil, chicory extract and cranberry powder, oat fiber and ground rice versus the Max Cat which has no mendhaden fish oil or chicory or cranbery or oat fiber and uses rice bran.

The other differences are:
The natural choices is 1% higher in protein, and in fat, .5% higher in Linoleic Acid, contains 40 IU more of zinc, and contains a higher per centage of taurine.

I hope this helps a bit...fwiw, I love how my cats are doing since I switched them to Nutro Natural Choices Complete Care weight management, I really like this line of foods.

I've been reading and reading for days now about cat nutrition and while I'm learning about the different top of the line products, I also have to be practical. Cost is an issue but availability is more of an issue. The Petsmart store is a good half hour away, and the local pet store is so dirty and dingy that I'd wonder how old their food products are.

So far my kittens were eating the Purina Kitten Chow they were eating at the shelter. Then the vet gave me a good sized bag of food (IVD I think it was) which I mixed, but now they are down to that straight. As I've been reading about wet foods I started to give some of that, but I bought the kitten Iams at the food store, and they ate that fine.

My plan today is go to Petsmart, try the Nutro, get my free bag of Kitten Authority, and a bunch of different canned products and go from there. I want to have a bit of variety in case I run out of something, or can't get something, or there is an awesome deal on something.

I would enjoy reading more opinions about foods for kittens.

BTW, my two absolutely adore the DrinkWell fountain I bought them.

I use Nutro-Natural Choice for Skylar. Then for Ani, she wasn't crazy about that food. The pieces for the adults are really big. I give her Wellness Lite (she's on a diet) and she really enjoys it

Thank you for the advice. I picked up a bag of the Nutro Gourment regular kitten food and she attacked it. She hasn't touched the adult Iams in the past half hour, so far so good. I bought a bag of the adult kind as well and will switch Annabelle over. The regular Nutro max food was a couple dollars less than the Natural kind, but didn't seem any more expensive than Iams. Petsmart really raised the price on Iams, by about two dollars! I did look on the Nutro website and they have a frequent buyer club- http://www.nutroproducts.com/fbpnutroReg.asp they send you 20$ in coupons and when you buy ten bags, pouches, or cans you get the 11th free, which really seems like it would help with the overall cost. I'll probably switch over to the Natural choice when we have a more stable income.

Oh, they will eat the cheap foods. It' s like you eating fast food, you know it's not good for you, but it tastes good. LOL. You go to higher quality food not because they won't eat cheaper one, but because it's better for them.
Mine are on Nutro Natural Choice. There are even better more expensive foods out there, but so far I haven't found anything they like.

I just recently started my cats on Nutro Natural Choice lamb flavor. When Zach was a kitten he wouldn't touch it. I had been feeding them Natural Balance but it's just not readily available locally. I also tried Innova and I didn't have good results and again I can't get it locally.

So I tried Nutro Natural and this time they both LOVE it. I am rotating that with Premium Edge Finicky Cat which is also very inexpensive and has a very good ingredients list.

The nice thing is I can get it in 5 minutes instead of over an hour one way.
