Hi all -

I have an 18-month-old blue point Himalayan female who has been spayed for a year now who has taken to crying at all hours of the day and night. She has always been a very quiet kitty and all of the sudden has discovered she can make some pretty loud noises. I plan to take her to the vet on Monday but she doesn't appear to be ill at all and not in any pain. She is eating and drinking normally but just seems to cry very loudly for no real reason. There have been no stressors in our household. We do have three other cats but they have all always been together. My cats are not outdoor cats. We also have Lily's sister Lucy living with us and they have always been very close but she along with the other two cats get very puzzled looks on their faces when Lily begins her "chatting." I have tried a squirt gun and that does get her to stop but she also does this at night and my husband and I are not getting any sleep! Help!

See that thread maybe there is something there that can help you out. Except for the whole shock collar thing, please don't try that one. Anyway, cats hide their pain so if she was in pain you might not know it. Please don't squirt her either, she isn't doing anything wrong, she is trying to communicate with you. Are you sleeping with the bedroom door closed and she wants in? If you are then open the door. You can also play and give her some good exercise right before you go to bed so she is pooped and goes to sleep. It is good you are taking her to the vet. Though, hopefully it is nothing big. Good luck.

Miss Kitty likes to meow REALLY loud at night when she has her toy mice in her mouth and when she's looking for them. She's really quiet other than that. Maybe your Lily is just trying to get your attention.
But do take her to the vet to make sure nothing's wrong with her.

Thanks for your suggestions. In thinking about it this evening, I realize I wouldn't want someone many times my size squirting me with a squirt gun everytime I spoke. We do leave our bedroom door open at night and all of the cats pretty much roam the house through the night and end up sleeping with us but lately Lily has not been sleeping with us. She's such a sweet little thing (very petite and dainty even for being full grown) so I'm just going to put up with it this weekend and take her to the vet Monday. She's never been one to beg for attention and has always been very timid but loving towards my husband and me but something has definitely changed. I sure hope it's nothing serious. Thanks again for all your suggestions.
