Hi Guys, I am donning on my mod hat and my Marketing Director hat to please ask you to not use the boards in any way to promote your talent, your craft, your writing ability in an attempt to make money.

We are no longer on a free server, it costs to keep this board running and we get heavy targeted traffic that advertisers now want and they pay for.

If you read our guidelines we talk about this. If you post about your crafts, or your work, your post will be removed and you will be informed. It is simply not fair to the advertisers here, and some are members as well, and cherished ones at that. They don't promote their products except in the correct fashion, by contacting either Anne or myself and paying to put an ad in the Market Place or on site somewhere.

There is one thread that is being allowed only through December and there are strings attached to its being here:

Thank you for listening, and making our board the great place that it is-

I certainly hope so.
Thanks for the heads up Hissy. Does the site need any member donations??

Later,
Brandon

Hissy, can we post about our crafts if we aren't selling anything? I was going to put together a photo "quilt show," primarily of my charity quilts, since there seem to be quite a few quilters on here. Though I used to sell my items, I stopped in June and am taking at least a year or two off, so it is not like I'm trying to advertise my items.

M.A., what if we post a link to a commercial site we personally have nothing to do with, simply because we think the product is funny, useful, stupid, or whatever. For example, the "Chewish treats" thread I started this evening. Is that out of bounds? I went back and added two more links to try to prevent misunderstandings.

The problem is this- if you post your wonderful crafts, and we have so many talented members as it is, then someone posts who wants to buy your item then that will then make the thread into a promotional type of item, thus turning it into an advertisting type of thread even though that was not the original intention of the thread.

I really feel like a grinch, but again, this bulletin board is much more than just a community of cat lovers, over the past four years it has grown into a business and it does cost us to keep this going, which is why we offer cost-effective advertising in The Market Place.

The monies we get for advertising goes into keeping the site running, the tech team on board and the other expenses this website and meowhoo incurrs on a monthly basis. We get a lot of traffic through our forums and website on a monthly basis, and Anne and I are sorry, but we cannot afford to just give away the advertising rights here-

Thanks for understanding-

If you would like to help support the website, drop an email to [email protected] or one to me [email protected] and we can let you know how you can help.

That sucks. Just two days ago I was compiling a screenshot of the main characters for my game and the only place I was considering showing it was here because they're cats and I don't care what anyone would think anywhere else on the internet. It's nowhere near being a saleable product either. I won't be releasing it until late next year if it ever makes it that far, but I guess since it "could" be a product for some unknown date far in the future then some advertiser woud get cranky or some member would get jealous and complain.

When that time ever comes, Hydoaxe, you could advertise on the site. (Just a suggestion.

You could also just show some of us privately, through PMs or email, I know I would like to see it

Can we talk about the crafts and hobbies we do if we're not posting pictures etc? I can sure understand about advertising and that we shouldn't take advantage of the site for free advertising. And that the thread you mentioned probably crossed well over that line! For many of us however, crafts and hobbies are a huge part of our lives but not necessarily as a business or to sell and we just like to talk about what we're doing, what projects we're working on and maybe sometimes share ideas. So I just wanted to make sure I understand before I post something inapropriate!

Okey-Dokey!!

I'll try to contain myself from all my creative impulses!

p.s. MOST of my creative impulses have already been put on hold, since I seem to just keep sitting in front of the darn computer so much!!

Just share them in a chat room or on IM, but please keep your crafts off the board because homemade items do sell and are coveted by many people including me.
It just isn't fair to the folks who put money down to advertise with us, if we allow some of you to do this for free in the same type of space.

The Market Place is really cost effective. To run an ad there is only $15.00 a month. If you want to promote your crafts, I would strongly suggest that you do it there. You can pm or email me for details.
