ok -- so this week started out good, and then craziness insued and finding time to go to the gym has been scare. My computer crashed, our tv stopped working, and i found a house to buy this week and had to get things ready with the sales office to sign the contract this week. So things got hectic. i am going to attempt to go tomorrow morning, but that makes my workout count only up to 2 days for this week.
I guess I'll have to try harder during week 2!

I want to get into an exercise regimen myself. Don't want to lose weight, just get into better shape and take better care of myself.

Curves sounds like a neat program (we have one right on our corner and their website made it sound pretty good) -- how did you like it Rockcat?

Other than that, I have a pilates DVD collecting dust, and I COULD walk every day

I am battling a sinus infection right now, so starting might have to wait until after x-mas (when I'm done with my antibiotics). I was going to start January 1, but the week after x-mas is as good as any.

I find going to the gym to be really boring but I enjoy learning a new skill and taking a class. Currently I do kick boxing twice a week and I am loving it so much I plan on doing some related cross training as a result, to improve my technique. Yesterday I found a posting for an adult ballet class (at the same church centre where I have my KB classes) which I am also interested in doing. I might not get my sculpted abs back in 6 weeks but I do break a sweat and jump around for a few hours which is really the base requirement for health
I'm the same way--I get so bored on the treadmill, I feel like a hamster on a wheel. But I've been doing kickboxing too. Absolutely love it. (Though I was unbelievably sore for 3 days after the first class!)

Sadly, I even hate activity. Unless one can classify lifting a needle or pressing keys on the keyboard activity. Guess that is why I've reached the point I have. It is a good thing I live in a two-story house and have to go up and down the stairs 10-20 times a day, or I'd be in worse shape yet.

I still have to finish wrapping the last gift and get a few ready for mailing, then get them to the post office this afternoon. Then I PROMISE I'll do my third day of exercises. I promise, I promise, I promise............

It's strange that you don't like activity because your body is wired to respond well to it. Adrenaline and endorphins make you feel happy and alert and most humans enjoy those feelings!

I really wonder if you could like it if you found an activity that really appeals to you. It definitely helps if your group (if you take a class) is fun and the people are easy to get along with.

mamacat - What kind of kick boxing do you do? I do Savate (french street fighting) and I adore it! We also do some Jeet Kun Do and occasionally Muay Thai for variation but the class is primarily Savate.

(we have a crappy website here http://www.savateontario.ca/)

Oh, I used to enjoy dancing forty-some years ago. But a 63-year-old widow just doesn't go somewhere dancing alone. Actually, at this point I hate even going out of the house. I'm a loner. And every minute I spend exercising, I see as a minute I can't be doing the sedentary things I truly enjoy doing.

I think my best hope is not to find something I "enjoy" doing, but rather to find exercise I can do just as a habit. You know, a person doesn't think about whether or not they ENJOY washing their face or brushing their teeth. They just do it. I'd like to be able to do that with exercise at home. That way I don't have to spend any more time at it than necessary, yet it would get the job done. But it will take some time to see where it will best fit and to establish it as a habit.

Okay, now I'm off to do my 30 minutes of exercise.

I did it! I met my goal for the week!

I finished my third time this week of getting my exercises in. I'd never have done it without feeling obligated to report back here, so I guess starting this thread has done some good. Hope it has been helpful to the rest of you.

My goal for the next week is to get another three days of exercise in, approximately 30 minutes each, in spite of Christmas preparations!

Well, I didn't meet my goal of exercising during Christmas week. I did once, then my back started giving out and I was lucky just to get the house cleaned and dinner ready for Christmas eve. This past week, I didn't even have a good excuse, as my back has been pretty much back to normal after a few days rest. I just fell back in my old habits of not exercising.

Okay, this is a new year and I'll be starting a new week. I'm going to do it this week! How about you?

This is the first time I have seen this series of posts and I am excited about it. Right before I sat down to do some cat site browsing I went jogging..and by jogging i mean jog for a quarter mile walk a half mile, jog a quarter mile, and so on. I am about 150 lbs and about 5'6 1/2. Pheeww, ok, wow I just told my weight,, that hurt. But I figured I'd get it out there. Todays jogging was the first excersize I have had in QUITE some time. We are vacationing in Florida in March around the spring break time and you KNOW what kind of half naked gorgeuos people are there during that time so I would like to lose 15 lbs or atleast tone my legs because my thighs are flabby and disproportionate to my body!!!!Cellulite sucks!!! I will be happy to have a place to have others assist in keeping me motivated,,thanks guys!!!!

I have been really proud of my progress. My motivation seemed to really kick in Xmas week. Went to the gym both the 23 and 24, took some days off for my vacation in NYC -- HOWEVER I walked MANY MANY blocks of the city on the 26 and 27, then went right back to the gym on the 29, the 30, and TODAY! It feels really good to be back in the gym doing something good for my body. I am starting to feel better already.

Sanctie - Don't feel bad, I am about 150lbs but only 5'4 1/2 inches, so I have a ways to go. Actually if I can somehow manage to take off 10 lbs. I'll be happy!

Way to go, berylayn!
You're a good example to follow!

I'm not concerned about talking off pounds. (Though the way I've been eating lately, maybe I should get on the scale before I say that!) But I would like to lower the amount of meds I have to take for blood pressure and cholesterol if I can. Yep, going to get back at the exercise tomorrow.

Now that the holiday season is behind us and the new year has started, I'm really going to make an effort to meet my goal of walking for 1/2 hour every day. So far, I've met my goal for four days out of the last five, and my current short-term goal is to walk 1/2 hour every single day for the next two weeks.

I'm going to start walking on my treadmill. Tomorrow is my first day. I'll be easing into it (15 minutes), but that's a start. My body will be so shocked.
I want to lose weight. I'll report back on my progress.

Just here to wake this place up again, I worked out today, and yesterday. Today I rode the bike for 10 minutes and 2 miles. Did the weight lifting for over 30 minutes. I'm going to stick to it this time!

Yay Meagan!!
Sounds like your doing well.

I have done 30 min. or cardio for the last 3 days and tonight I go for one of my free personal training sessions the gym provides.

I'm sticking with it this time as well!

I'm half-way to meeting my short-term goal, I've walked for 1/2 every single day for the last 7 days!
Usually, I do my walking inside using some hallways in the independent living apartment building that is connected to the nursing home I work at. Today is my day off and it's far too cold to go outside, so I just walked around inside my house for 1/2 hour.
I'm very determined about meeting my goals.
