I can offer one tip, it is much easier to work out in the morning then it is at any other time. Mainly because you get it done early and you don't have the rest of the day to make up excuses not to workout. It is working for me, I used to do it in the afternoon but I started in the morning after I eat and it works great!

I wish i could start up in the morning again...in college my classes were at 8:00 so I'd go to the gym at 6:00 or 6:30 to workout. Now that I am in the working world...the students i teach arrive at 7:40 in my classroom. I am usually at my school by 6:45 to get things prepared in the morning. I haven't been able to motivate myself enough to get up at 5:00 am to go to the gym. Maybe one day - but not yet. *sigh* So for awhile i was packing a bag and going immediately after school at 3:00 before i even went home. That worked for awhile - but then during the summer i lost all motivation to go.

Brendan and I intend to start up again this week together. Our plan is to get to the gym by 3:30 and stay for at least 30 min. Baby steps...

In the MORNING? Horrors! I feel just one step above death in the morning!

Seriously, I have a sleep problem and rarely get more than four hours of sleep at night. I usually wake up at 3 or 4 AM and can't get back to sleep, so I get up. Temporarily! I get on the computer or sew for several hours, then have breakfast, and like this morning I went back to bed at 8:00 for my second sleep shift.
Ah, then in the afternoon and evening I can feel like a human again. I've tried not sleeping in the daytime, but regardless of what else I do, I can never get more than 3-5 hours of sleep in a shift. Good thing I'm retired now. It was not fun while I was still working and had this problem!

Well, you gals succeeding in getting me to (get this!): exercise two days in a row! Yeah! I put on a polka CD and danced and did exercises and just walked to the music, keeping moving (sometimes just barely) for a full 30 minutes. I'll admit I was sure glad there were some walses periodically in there!

Well, right now I'm sitting here in my gym clothes reading TCS instead of actually going to the gym. So I guess I qualify for the "I Hate Excercise" Club.

I can't understand it. Two years ago I was so motivated--I was jogging 6 mornings a week, and even roadracing once or twice a month. Two years ago I spent New Year's Eve doing the Midnight Run in Central Park. But shortly after that I just lost all motivation and stopped excercising altogether, and of course gained weight. About 7 months ago the doctor told me I needed to lose 10 pounds, so I started running again and joined a gym, and I've taken the weight off at this point, but it has become SO difficult to motivate myself to actually excercise. I don't even feel like running anymore, even though I used to love it and especially loved racing. Now I just drag myself to the gym, about 3 times a week, and hate it. Ugh. I could definitely use some moral support!

ENGLAND... LAND OF HOPE AND GLORY!
My gym which i'm a member of is across the road from where i get off my train at home, and only 10 minutes walk from my house.

I havent been in weeks because it's too cold and all i want to do is to get home.

The thing is once i'm there i enjoy a workout, but at the moment no thanks!. I do plenty walking though and find that this helps a lot

My gym is quite nearby as well. Actually there are two gyms near me, but I belong to the less expensive one. Of course, less expensive means less equipment--and less of it that works!
Anyway, I just came back from a workout. Susan I know what you mean--I loathe going, but once I'm there I actually don't mind it so much. If I could just find a way to motivate myself to leave the apartment.

I did my 1 mile walk again this morning, even though it only takes 24 minutes, I know I am still getting at least 30 minutes of excercise because our house is 4 levels, which means you are constantly climbing stairs. Can you imagine how hard it was to come from a single level home to a 4 level home?! Bedrooms on the 3rd level, kitchen/living room on the 2nd level (entry level), washer and dryer in the basement, and then there is the finished attic which we haven't yet done anything with. My treadmill is on the 3rd level as well!

I used to like it and now I don't. NOt sure why, I have a nordic track and I use it while watching TV. I had gotten up to 45 minutes on it! Now i do my obligatory 15 and quit.
I don't know what's going on.

I know i feel loads better when I exercise, it's the oxygen to my brain for one thing. But I feel resitant these days.

I don't understand either, it might be weather, as it gets colder you want to hybernate. But that didn't used to get to me. I used to like bundling up and going on my bike on cold days for instance.

Hooray!
I went...first day out of the way. I did 30 min. on the eliptical trainer.

I think for me it becomes a time/tired issue. There just aren't enough hours in my day. I chase 6 year olds around from 8 -3 (i teach kindergarten) and then i get home and between lesson planning, dinner, and relaxing i just can't get myself out the door. That and my kinders wear me out and by the time i get home some days i just need a nap!

hopefully my 4 months of not going to the gym ends today.

Those eliptical trainers kick your butt .. The 1st time I went back to the gym, and hopped on it, I lasted only 4 minutes, if that, and I was going at normal speed. They are a good workout though.

Well, I'm here in my gym clothes reading TCS again!
But this morning I have an excuse--I take a kickboxing class at the gym on Tuesdays and it's not for another 45 minutes. That's one thing that has helped to motivate me a little, I have to say, is taking the classes--this way my workout is not exactly the same everyday, and I get less bored. And I like being able to tell my bf I got complemented on my front kicks.

I'm still going for my 30 minute walks in spite of the cold weather. I found a place where I can walk indoors, so I don't have to join a gym to use a treadmill, or spend the money to invest in one either.

The nursing home where I work has an attached independent living apartment building, and I got permission to use those hallways for my walking. I even got to add some stair climbing too. The apartment building is on three levels, so I start out on the lowest level and gradually work my way up to the third floor, and then I gradually work my way back down again. I've used these hallways a couple of times now, and so far it's worked out really well!

Very ingenious of you! If you exercise outdoors, it does get tough once the weather turns bad.

Well, I'm on my way to the gym now--they are closing down for 6 hours today for their staff holiday luncheon, so I have to get there before it gets too packed.

Uh oh - I like to exercise (just don't call it that) - I wish I could find more time for all those interesting activities though (hiking, swimming, surfing etc.)

I think a lot of people hate excersise but they don't hate *activity*.

I find going to the gym to be really boring but I enjoy learning a new skill and taking a class. Currently I do kick boxing twice a week and I am loving it so much I plan on doing some related cross training as a result, to improve my technique. Yesterday I found a posting for an adult ballet class (at the same church centre where I have my KB classes) which I am also interested in doing. I might not get my sculpted abs back in 6 weeks but I do break a sweat and jump around for a few hours which is really the base requirement for health
