I watched the sweetest movie last night and part of the story dealt with a cat so I thought I'd share. It's called MADADAYO and was Akira Kurosawa's last movie. Yes, it is in Japanese so you have to read it, but it is simply wonderful! I got it through Netflix. I don't know if a local video store would have it or not, maybe a library.

It's about a retired school teacher in the 1940's. The whole sequence when he looses his cat is, well, wonderful and sweet. I keep using those words but they fit so well.

If you can find this movie I highly recommend it!

Hironobu Sakaguchi is listed at the director of this movie. Is this the one you mean?

We have a subscription to Netflix, which I love. You pay a flat monthly fee and can have up to 3 or 4 DVDs at a time. They send them to you in the mail and you send them back in a pre-paid envelope. The have thousands of movies! That's where I found Madadayo. http://www.netflix.com/
