I wasn't planning on becoming "one of those crazy cat ladies" just yet but here I am, buying stuff for the ferals who have claimed my yard as home, worrying about them, feeding them, etc. (and neutering, of course).

Today I noticed Veronica and Buster were sleeping in the misty rain, not in the shelter my little nephews built for me. So I checked - seems it is used solely by Pirate Pete (at least, there's a Pete-only-sized nest in the straw).

I felt bad for Veronica and Buster, so I went out and bought a little doghouse, the doors for it, and some non-aromatic cedar type bedding. Husband went with me to be my sherpa, then set it up and attached the plastic doors; I sprinkled some catnip in it and sprayed Feliway in it. Now I just have to wait and see if they grok that it is to keep them out of the rain.

I know this isn't much in the grand scheme of things but it's more than I would have thought I'd be doing. And the part I find really interesting is that Kurt hasn't said anything about it. I guess he figures if I can put up with his video gaming, he can put up with my animal fixation

At the kitty's beck and call
What a wonderful warm heart you have
. If Veronica and Buster have a hard time finding it, you could always put a couple of treats in the doorway - see if that encourages them.

Isn't it amazing how those sweet kitties win us over?
Keep doing what you are doing. The love you get back from your guys is worth anything that you can do for them.

I heat there food, warm there bedding, My hubby built that enclouser and in less then 2 or 3 weeks made it bigger, he said in case they all end up in the house after they have been to the Vet that way we'll have somewhere to go
I am so done in, but most of all what I want is to see them cared for and loved as they should be, I have been to the vet so much this last 2 weeks I'm pooped from running back and forth, I will take 2 or 3 this week then thers 2 more besides the one I have not gotten yet, that makes 11, I must have lost my mind, no it was my
I can be tried as heck and watch them laying in the sun or playing and you just have to smile and that's worth every minute. Everyone in my family things I'm nutts
But that's ok they like them to ...

I am one of those "crazy cat ladies" and d*mned proud of it! You are doing far more than the average person for the cats and that is saying a lot. Never worry about what others think - if its in your heart to help these babies, it defines who you are and makes you a better person!

My husband is the dog person in the house but he understands my need to help cats and does most of the shelter construction. He's a pushover for orphaned babies and actually does a much better job at feeding them than I do. While I get emotional with the cats, he's very pragmatic with their care and keeps me balanced. In exchange, I bribe him with his music habit and guitars. An easy trade for the help he gives me.

Good for you for taking care of these guys!

I am one of those "crazy cat ladies" too.
I wouldn't have it any other way.
My feral kitties just like to lay out in the misty rain for some reason.

They are all friends and they live under my mobile home where it is dry and warm in winter and cool in summer. They all have very very thick warm coats of fur and it has been exceptionally warm here for this time of year.
It is turning colder tonite so don't think they will be laying out there too much more in the rain. Although they do enjoy playing and romping in the snow when it comes.

May I join the "crazy lady" club? I put blankets down for my ferals when the weather got cold. Three or four of them so that each one could have their own blanket. My babies get food and fresh water twice a day and at night, they stand in line waiting for their milk, or canned milk, or turkey, or hotdogs and cheese, salmon, or whatever the treat is, and then I close the little gate, and they know that it is time for bed. I have a beautiful family, all of them spayed and neutered, fat and sassy and happy.
