No interest in new litter box?

I just bought a new litter box enclosure (one of those "Cat Litter Furniture" ones that is like a wooden piece of furniture). I had three cats until recently, (one of them passed away a couple of weeks ago), and had two litter boxes set up: one litter box tucked into a hallway closet, and a second one placed inside a cage in my living room. I had bought the cage in order to litter train the one that just passed away (he had come from an abusive home and had lots of probs with going in the litter box, so I had to re-train him). This was very successful and cured my baby of his litter woes, so after a while I just left the cage door open at all times, and all three cats would use whichever litter box they wanted.

A while back I decided, since I no longer needed the cage, I'd replace it with something a little more attractive and ordered one of these litter furniture things. My two remaining cats don't seem to know it's there, however. I took the cage down (which was difficult because I got it for my one that died...I guess it just doesn't seem right not to have that big ugly thing in my living room anymore
) Anyway I'd like to get my two others in the habit of using this new enclosure. How do I attract them to it?

Sorry for the long post!

Yikes, that was one of the reasons I've always been hesitant to get one of those! Um, when you clean out the litter, isn't there a little door to open the cabinet (or whatever piece of furniture it's disguised as) that you could leave open so they could see/smell the litter?

Hopefully someone else can tell you... but that's the only thing I can think of. Good luck and let us know how it works out!

Yeah it does have doors on the long side. I will try that.... I'm afraid of them spraying and getting some urine on the floor, but then again that's why I buy enzyme treatments. Thanks for the suggestion!

Wow I've never heard of that! I could probably get these or something similar at the drug store and lay them on the floor, just in case. Thanks again

Or you could line the cabinet with it just in case they miss... just a thought! Not sure where else they would sell it... that's member Pat & Alix's website. Good luck!

How about using some cat attract litter? Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]ve never seen it but read about it on a post here. Also try putting some of their dirty litter in it so they can smell its there.

Stupid question -- but sometimes we can miss the obvious...

Did you follow the instructions when you first got it? You're supposed to open the lid and place the kitties down in the litter, then close the lit (so they have to exit the way they'd have to come in)?

I'm the one that tried the Cat Attract recently. Overall, the litter seemed like it would be pretty good. It looks like traditional grainy clay litter but it's a strong clumping type. It's supposed to have an odor (we can't smell it but kitty can) to attract them to the box. Unfortunately, I had to stop using it because my guy drinks from the toilet and gets his paws soaking wet, and whenever he went into the litter box following a drink, the litter would clump and stick to his paws... was very uncomfortable for him. As long as your kitties aren't dipping their little feet into pools of water though, I'm sure you'd have no problems

Here's where I bought it -- they shipped pretty fast (ordered it on a Sunday, received it by Wednesday).

20 lb. Bag | 40 lb. Bag

Ok, the top of mine doesn't open up. But I opened the side doors and put them both in, one at a time. They both jumped right out immediately! Hmmm. I will try using some of their "used" litter from the other litter box. If that doesn't work I'll look into the Cat Attract stuff.

Thanks everyone!

I just looked at the web site for Cat Attract. I wish I had known about this years ago. My kitty who just passed away had trouble for a long time with the litter box - and was abused before I got him (they mention this specifically on the site). My cage approach worked as I said above, but it would have been great to know about this stuff back then! Boy I sure miss that little guy.

If you were stuck in your toilet, wouldn't you jump out immediately?! Lol...

Good luck, I can't think of any other suggestions!
