This might sound stupid….

My kitten came in to heat today. She's 8 month old and thou we’ve been meaning to get her spayed sometimes life gets in the way of the best intentions. (She’s an indoor kitty through her own choice and I plan to get it done straight away)

My question is, this morning my bf and I were on the whiskas website and went on the section called ‘cat translator’.

http://www.whiskas.co.uk/whiskas/en-...at/catChat.asp

When we played it my kitten (who shows no interest in other cats when the wander into the garden and to my knowledge hasn’t met another cat in the 6 months we’ve had her) started to purr and jumped up to lick and nuzzle the monitor.

Do you think this triggered her into going into heat?
I’ve played it in front of her before and she ignored it.

I feel so bad for her, she's flirting her heart out but no ones interested!

Awww!

I'm kinda surprised that this is her first heat @ 8 months old....

Biology kicked in here, not a sound you played.

Please make sure she stays inside, and do get her spayed ASAP...if for nothing else but her health.

Hang in there, she'll come through ok,

I think mavericks just a late developer. She doesnâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t like catnip yet even though both her parents do (heard it genetic) and she a really small cat.

I break up from university on the 17th so Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]ll get her done that weekend. She hates going outside and other cats so theres no chance sheâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]ll get pregnant. Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]ll keep a close eye on her just in case.

Thanks for your advice, I was worried Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]d damaged her! Feel bad enough for not getting her spayed sooner. Shes my first cat so I didnâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t realise heat was so traumatic for her : (

You're doing fine.

Just remember that even if she normally doesn't like going outside, or even hates other cats, that biology is a funny thing...hormones can have a drastic effect on her actions (and her judgment
). You're more than likely already noticed at least one drastic change...once the heat cycle is over, she should return back to her normal self, until the next cycle (you shouldn't have to worry about that getting her spayed on the 17th though)

Give her extra attention and be patient with her

Keep us posted,

She seems to have come out of heat already. Her behaviours more or less back to normal.

Definitely going to have her spayed. Seen the result of having un-spayed cats first hand. My friend who I got her off had three unspayed females and two males who interbred continuously. Worst of all the alpha female, who was constantly pregnant left all her kittens to die once they were born. Out of 5 litters only two survived. Luckily one of them was my kittens mummy.

All her cats have either been re-homed or neutered now so luckily it wont happen again. but its made me too scared to let my kitty have babies, Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]m far too busy to hand raise a litter of kittens.

Maybe sheâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s thinking the same, thatâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s why she only flirts with humans! Lol

And buy some earplugs! You will appreciate them in the middle of the night!

Another quick comment - she may have had a silent heat earlier. My Freija came into heat at 3 1/2 months (oh yes!) and I couldn't afford nor had I planed on spaying her until a month later. When I was finally able to get Freija and her sister Abbie in for their spay (Freija had not come out of heat that whole month) the vet informed me that Abbie - who had given absolutely no signs of being in heat - very definitely was in heat as well. I had never heard of silent heat before in cats, although I was aware of it in horses.

The earplugs were the only way I could get any sleep - even my other cats were cranky with Freija keeping them up too with her constant crying.

Iâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]ve never heard of silent heat. Shes so attention seeking and playful anyway I barely noticed this time around. My only clue was the way she flung herself at me and kept throwing me flirty looks!

8 months is a little late to be goin into heat so maybe thatâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s what happened to her.
