Help with polyps?

Our kitten, Mr. Paw, who was a feral kitten and adopted by us in August has been diagnosed with a polyp in his right ear. He's an amazing little cat and has a wonderful disposition. A few weeks ago, he started having ear problems. After taking him to the vet, he is now on antibiotics and the infection is being taken care of. But the polyp still has to be removed. They gave us a quote of $2000.00 to perform the necessary procedure. Does anyone have advice on what to do when an operation is not within one's means? Are there opportunities to get it done for less, since he was adopted as a street kitty? Or considerations to help put this in perspective? Any help and insight would be greatly appreciated!
