Yeah, me too. It would be nice to have that choice, all we have here are self serves....other wise you have to go in for a service like an oil change to get the other stuff checked.....:-(

I know how to do both. In fact, in college I was offered a job at a service station when I cleaned my friend's windows because I actually knew how to do it correctly. Right now, though, DH does everything for me. I LOVE that man! I think I've filled the gas tank like 2 times this year.

My husband filled the tank for me, checked the tires and the oil, etc. for 35 years until he had his stroke. Then things started going downhill, as I never can remember to do them. Well, I do remember to fill the gas tank. But he has been gone for a year and a half now, and I just realized last month that I don't even remember how to check the oil in the car. I do know how on the pickup. However, to tell you the truth, I use the vehicles so little that I haven't bothered to check between oil changes. I just have to remember to get the oil changed at decent intervals. And believe me, I don't do THAT myself!

I've never checked the tires myself, either. But since we bought the tires for both vehicles at Les Schwab, when I go into that larger town I just swing by there periodically and they check them for me. The nice owner of the garage where I take both vehicles here in my own town has checked them for me, too, when I've forgotten to have them checked at Les Schwab. I just swing in there and ask. He kind of shakes his head like, "Oh, that poor dumb woman" and does it for me. That's okay. I go back and spend enough money on service!

there is still one gas station in moore, oklahoma(where i am from) that has full-service and self-service... the only mechanic i have ever trusted in my life, as soon as i moved away me and my husband are the ONLY ones that work on the car now and sometimes i dont even let him do it
i never used their full-service though, i figured they have been working all day, i can get my lazy a*$ out of the car and fill up with gas, but they did always come out and talk to you to see how you were...
i think all places should be that nice! makes it feel like a small town!

We have one full-service gas station in the county that I am aware of but I don't use it. It costs WAY too much money though its nice to know they are still there for those who could use the help.

I know some on how to check under the hood for the essential fluids, belts and plugs as well as checking the tires....Thanks dad.

We still have full serve. In some municipalities that's all there is. Mostly, though, you'll have a service station with 3 islands and one side of one of them will be full serve, the rest self. I check the oil (when I remember
), I check the tires, esp the front these days, as we seem to have a couple of slooooow leaks. At four cents a litre more (that's 16 cents a gallon) for full serve, I figure I can handle those things.

The last full service station in my town just closed down, the owner just wanted to retire. He knew it was going to be a loss for the area. Its weird to think the era is gone, I remember when self serve started up. For a long time all stations had a chioce (you paid more for the full obviously)

Thank goodness we still have a ma and pa grocery store though. We have a small market that is run by a family that seems to survive even though there is an Albertsons, Safeway and Trader Joes just like two blocks away. I don't do my regular shopping there but always do some, plus there is an old style butcher in there too.

There are a few stations that have full service. Most of the time, I pumpp my own gas.
I have no clue how to check the tires for air, other than just looking at them.

Isn't pretty much all over the US self service with the exception of New Jersey? I would love to have full service gas stations. I hate getting out of the car to pump gas.

Technically I can do everything the poll asked... however I'd rather not. I had to get more air in my tires recently and it took me quite a while to find it in my manual - but eventually we figured it out. And I can look under the hood - the sad thing is it takes me ages to figure out how to open the hood.

My dad got mad when he was re-teaching me... but that's what my boyfriend's for. C'mon, if he LIKES doing it, why not?

I am the only person in my family who knows anything about cars! I do all that stuff myself
(I also have my Haynes for reference if I get stuck!)

I've never heard of a petrol station that cleans your windows and things! WOW!

There is a little petrol station in the village - where my parents live - and they do the pump and you can get servicing and MOT done there! I suppose that is similar?! It is VERY expensive though, but in it's defense it is an old family business that's been there for YEARS!!

Movin' on up!
Tucson has a number of full-service stations. In 31 years of driving, I've never had anyone, other than a husband, son or boyfriend pump my gas. I'm a take-care-of-myself kind of gal. When I was single, I checked my own fluids and tire pressure. I've changed a few flats, too. Once, I was out with Mom and her car got a flat. She was glad that I was along - Mom didn't know how to change a tire.

One of the full-serve places has a nice policy: for disabled customers, they pump the gas and charge the self-serve price.

I think I know of a full service station nearby - but most is now self-serve. We do have one chain that pumps it for you. All they offer is gas and cigarettes. Oh, they do have some drink machines and a toilet.

We have both kinds here. And I don't know how to do either of those, but then I don't drive, so it's not really an issue.

I go to a station on the way home from work which is a self-serve but fortunately (for me) I drive a diesel car and they won't let you pump diesel yourself, so I HAVE to let them fill my tank.
My husband looks after my oil, brakes, tires and all those other wonderful things and I cook for him while he does it!

Hmm, almost all of ours have both at the same station!
One half is self-service, the other full-service.
I always go to the full-service, depending on what you mean by checking under the hood, I can fill up my window-washer fluid, God knows you ALWAYS need it here, and the oil, but thats about it.
Thats what Brandon is for
