I had mono when I was in school, from a shared water bottle. It went through the whole girl's basketball team. I felt like I had the flu for about a month, then I was fine. Take good care of yourself and let us know how you are.

A month!
Oh no....that stinks. Yeah, my mother made me feel like it was worth the news, because she called all my friends and their parents. She told my tutor, too. Now they have to get blood tests! I feel so embaressed and guilty....

Oh honey don't! Because one of them could very well be the one you got it from in the first place... You really don't want your friends getting sick and not knowing... Your Mom did the right thing... My Mom and friend's Mom, when they knew what we had, called our school.... Imagine this, the health people at school pulled everyone they even *thought* we knew into the office, called their parents, ect. Holy EMBARASSING!
So don't worry!
And yes it usually is a month, mine was, but on the bright side, my friend's lasted just a bit over 2 weeks.
You could be the same way

And all this worrying? It's stressful, stress makes you more sick!
Try to keep calm, take VERY good care of yourself, and enjoy the time off school while you wear your PJs all day and every takes care of you

My best suggestion is to put on your comfyest pjs and grab a kitty or two and snuggle in bed. And maybe a little chicken broth.

It is a bummer being sick during the holidays! Happened to me a couple of years ago. Bad cold during Christmas and my period came on - with a vengeance!

i had mono when i was 15 or 16 and omg it was the worst time of my life!! But I also had strep throat and bronchitus at the same time due to my stupid hmo not testing properly.. I literally lost 2-3 full weeks of my life and only remember brief snippets from that time..

Just relax and rest as much as possible, before you know it you'll be 24 wondering what the heck happened to your teen years

That's bad timing.
I'm so sorry. My lilbro had mono as a teenager. I remember hearing people talk a lot about it and called it the 'kissing disease'. lol, we gave my lilbro crap. I've never ever had it, that I know of. I hope you get better soon. I also hope you've been able to educate yourself better on it so that you can help yourself get better. stay safe.

Thanks. That REALLY stinks for you.
You're right, I want my friends to be everything but sick. Unfortuantly, this is what happened today, and it was just awful:

I went to school at ten, because they told me I could sleep in the mourning, and when I came to school, (with makeup to look less pale) I was told I needed a docter's note. I didn't know that!
But alas, mom was gone on errands, and I had to wait in the office for THREE HOURS! Doing nothing at that...
I was so scared, not to mention bored...plus the secratary kept mocking me.
Mom finally got a docter to fax a note to the school. It must have been a different docter that didn't know anything. He said I could go to school, on time everyday, and that I didn't even have MONO! GAH! I'm so angry and confused. I was advised to stay home for a month, and I have all the symtoms.....
I'm so hurt and confused. Plus Orei stayed by my bedside all day, and he only does that when I'm sick. What's going on?

Ack! How annoying! That sounds like some great advice. *calls kitties* Orei! Princess! Come get in bed with Mommy!
I shall grab my favorite PJs. Yummmm....chicken broth!
Thanks nurse Gem!

Honey, your Mom needs to talk to the school, and get a note from the first doctor you went to.
That is the very first thing that needs to be done.
You need to be at home, sleeping most of the time
and get yourself better!
The school CAN NOT force you to be there when you have MONO!!! How smart are they ?!?!!
Just try to relax a bit, you are sick, that makes everything else going on seem worse.

Okay, I'll ask her to do that, Ashley.
That's what I though.

I thought they couldn't! The secretary, when I told her I have mono, said something, like "*snicker* Yeah right, no you don't!" They can be the dumbest people sometimes.
I was so upset that the docter said that, and that I had to go to class, I was literaly crying.
Tears rolling down my cheeks, massive bawling here.
On of the aids (a helper for a teacher) told me to pay attention. Al I thought was 'Are you out of you mind? I'm sick, crying, and you want me to pay attention??" Maybe I'm over acting but....
Big
to you too, Ash/

I'm very surprised that you can go to school at all with mono. Our school doesn't allow it, and the kids are usually out for about four weeks. Anyway,

Intresting....well, I most likely won't have to go once mom gets through with the docters. She's there now!
Maybe I'll be as lucky as the kids at your school.

Thank you very much.

I hope you feel better soon Jenny. My Dad had mono when he was young. I remember him telling me it made him very tired and he had to stay pretty much at home for a month. I have always known it as the "kissing disease" as well. But I know you can get it from sharing drinks and thing like that.

Being sick for the holidays is awful
I had my tonsils out 4 days before Christmas 2 years ago. I couldn't eat a thing for Christmas and was in so much pain I stayed on pain medicine. I remember being at my grandmas and falling asleep on the couch and missing out on everything.
I am sure your family will find special things to do with you for the holidays to still make sure it's special

Okay guys. I'm feeling a bit better. I have been getting my rest, relaxing, and snuggling with the kitties, as advised. Orei doesn't want to leave mommy's side. He rests with me, follows me, and everything. He wants to make sure I'm alright. Princess makes her 'Is mommy okay" checks every so often. I love my guys!
