Just re-introducing myself as I seem to have got ‘lost’ during the forum re-shuffle L
My names Nicky and own an adorable, naughty moggie called Maverick.
My boyfriend got Maverick for me at a time when I was very sad, hated my job, had just quit uni, family problems etc….
Got to the stage when the doctor was recommending anti-depressants and I wasn’t sleeping a wink at night.
Then we got Maverick and after a week with a bouncy 7 week old kitten I was so exhausted I started to sleep again!
Maverick was a real spitfire when we first got her. She wasn’t as old or as socialised as I had been led to believe. And being quite naïve I believed my friend (who we got her off) when she told me all kittens hate human contact!
Hmmmmm, so many things I would have done differently now! For a start we only had a litter tray to carry her home in the car in, we hadn’t realised how wriggly kittens are and had expected her to sit passively on our laps!
Maverick clawed and cried at us continuously for about two hours until she was too tired to cry any more and nestled up in a little cat bed we had specially prepared with cushions, wrapped hot water bottle, old jumper, cuddly toy for company etc. she slept in the basket for precisely 1 hour before crawling out and getting into bed between us, where she has stayed ever since!
She got her unfortunate name from my boyfriend. Worried he’d feel left out and because he didn’t really like cats I suggested he name her, which he did, after Tom Cruises character in TopGun. In his defence we (and our vet) thought she was a boy for a fair bit. I really can’t stand the name and wish we’d call her daisy or something a little more feminine. Maverick doesn’t really go with her pink fluffy collar!
Maverick is the most friendly, lovable cat I’ve ever met, especially considering her hatred of humans when we first got her. Unfortunately her love only extends to me, my boyfriend and occasionally my mum if she has food….
i'll scan some pictures of the little minx if i get some time...
