Just re-introducing myself as I seem to have got ‘lost’ during the forum re-shuffle L

My names Nicky and own an adorable, naughty moggie called Maverick.

My boyfriend got Maverick for me at a time when I was very sad, hated my job, had just quit uni, family problems etc….

Got to the stage when the doctor was recommending anti-depressants and I wasn’t sleeping a wink at night.

Then we got Maverick and after a week with a bouncy 7 week old kitten I was so exhausted I started to sleep again!

Maverick was a real spitfire when we first got her. She wasn’t as old or as socialised as I had been led to believe. And being quite naïve I believed my friend (who we got her off) when she told me all kittens hate human contact!

Hmmmmm, so many things I would have done differently now! For a start we only had a litter tray to carry her home in the car in, we hadn’t realised how wriggly kittens are and had expected her to sit passively on our laps!

Maverick clawed and cried at us continuously for about two hours until she was too tired to cry any more and nestled up in a little cat bed we had specially prepared with cushions, wrapped hot water bottle, old jumper, cuddly toy for company etc. she slept in the basket for precisely 1 hour before crawling out and getting into bed between us, where she has stayed ever since!

She got her unfortunate name from my boyfriend. Worried he’d feel left out and because he didn’t really like cats I suggested he name her, which he did, after Tom Cruises character in TopGun. In his defence we (and our vet) thought she was a boy for a fair bit. I really can’t stand the name and wish we’d call her daisy or something a little more feminine. Maverick doesn’t really go with her pink fluffy collar!

Maverick is the most friendly, lovable cat I’ve ever met, especially considering her hatred of humans when we first got her. Unfortunately her love only extends to me, my boyfriend and occasionally my mum if she has food….

i'll scan some pictures of the little minx if i get some time...

I'm glad you made your way back and I can't wait to see pictures!

Hi, I am Bobbie, and I am also new again. My boys are Shenandoah and Humble. They're 4 1/2, and the loves of my life.

No he named her after topgun, a film I detest (probably due to my best male friends forcing me to watch it on loop). Sure he did it to spite me or maybe to test my new-found generosity.

Makes me laugh because my boyfriend is also named after an 80’s movie -Ã:censor: Rocky!

Don’t include his name on my post because scared everyone will think he’s another cat!

Oh I remember that your cat was named after the Top Gun movie... my boyfriend had recently forced me to watch Maverick so I thought it could be from both... never mind. Lol... I'm a dork.

And yeah, I'm not that big of a fan of Top Gun either - seen it too many times.

Is maverick the one where he’s a card shark or something?
We’ve already decided our next set of 80’s inspired names for any future cats/kittens

Either …

Hank, Sheila, Tiamat, uni, venger and Eric from the ‘dungeons and dragons’ cartoons

Or

Bugsy, Tallulah, Bloucey, Fat Sam, Cagey Joe and Leroy from Bugsy Malone.

“my boyfriend had recently forced me to watch Maverick” – sounds familiar, though I just got mine back by forcing him to watch ’13 going on 30’ which he hated!

Ha, I forced my boyfriend to watch the end of 13 going on 30... he didn't care too much for it! And yeah, Maverick is the card shark movie. Although I think the real term is card SHARP, not sure why if if that's right.

I like the names Shelia and Tallulah. My brother's name is Eric.. and Leroy? Hmm...
