Hello everyone! It has been a long time since I have posted here. I have been so busy at work and with my pregnancy. However I have a problem that needs solving.

One of my 5 cats, Merlin, has been causing major problems at night. He is 6 years old and a major momma's boy. Whenever I am home he is always with me, either on my lap or within 2 to 3 feet of me. He has always been needy for attention, even at night. he would potentially wake me up 1 to 2 times a night for 3 or 4 nights a week, get a little scritch and then go back to sleep.

For approximately the past 6 weeks he has become very vocal and aggressive at night. He starts anywhere from 1 to 3 am and keeps it up constantly until the alarm goes off at 5:30. He starts by walking between me and my husband meowing on the top of his lungs. He won't stop and his meow is very like a Siamese meow (kinda of grating). He gets very aggressive if you don't start scratching him. He will walk all over you and if you cover your head he will try to "dig" you out. The problem is however, even if you do scritch him, it is never enough - he wants it constantly. But then he will get over stimulated and while you are scratching and he is purring he will bite. He has broken skin a couple of times on my hand and once after he nipped I stopped scratching him he bit my nose very hard.

We can't toss him out of the room. First it would be unfair to the other cats who sleep in there - they also would be denied access. As well, he needs to be with me - he will beat his little paws bloody on the door trying to get to me.

My concerns are at 31 weeks pregnant I really need to get more then 2 hours of sleep at night - I am exhausted. Secondly, if he is this aggressive with me know, how will he be when the baby is here. John is threatening to get rid of him!

I would appreciate any suggestions!

I'm not an expert by any means, but I know that anytime a cat changes in behavior its best to go to the vet and check for any health problems. Cats can change when they are ill. If he is fine I really don't know what to suggest, I'm sure though that soon someone will be along that can help with that... I think everyone is just so busy and confused with the crash....
Hope everything works out

He has been checked and they actually think it may be related to my pregnancy as he is as healthy as a horse.

Could you try Feliway, maybe?
It's supposed to keep the cats calm.

Does he have interactive toys like a panic mouse or things he can play with in the middle of the night to occupy him? I dont really know what else to tell you just wanted to say Hi
and congrats on your pregnancy.

Hi and thanks. He does have toys, but often he will bring them right into bed and play with them on top of me. He is such a momma's boy!

He's training you for what life is going to be like when the baby is born -- Kidding of course, but you'll get about as much sleep with a new born in the house

You may HAVE to lock him out of your room, even if that means all the other cats get locked out too. Or how about giving him his own room at night for a while (a few weeks) to break this habit? Just put him in there at night, with his food and litterbox, toys and a catbed (and NOT the new baby's room!)

He may be sensing that big change is coming with his momma. Your body is changing, and might even be giving off smells that you and I don't detect, but he does. I'm sure you've also been busy prepping for the new baby. Have you done the nursery yet? Does it coincide with when this started?

We have so far avoided doing the nursery as we don't want to cause undo stress. The weird thing is he love sitting on the belly and purring to the baby. Maybe he just wants it out to play with now and doesn't want to wait!
