Hey guys, I was hoping y'all could help me out: I'm trying to think of a good house warming gift for my boyfriend's parents. I guess it's pretty self-explanatory... they just moved into their new house, my mother was thinking of a plant but I don't really like that idea. My mother also thought of maybe candles and my boyfriend says they did get a nice bathtub, but their bathroom has a black and white motif so I'm not sure where to get black and white candles...

Any help out there?

Ariana,

Do you have a Yankee Candle Company close to where you live? They have some nice white candles and these really cute candle holders I got last year (they hold the small candles they look almost like mini wine glasses). Hard to explain. I don't know if they have black candles however.

i know the frustration you're going through. I have to bring brendan's family something for xmas every year. I usually bring a plant but I just feel like its so impersonal.

Another idea...are they wine drinkers? You could get a bottle of wine and some wine charms or something. Just a thought.

How about a really nice black plate? You could buy some white candles and put them on the plate, then surround them with pretty black and white pebbles or marbles?

I did that sort of thing for my Mum. It looks really pretty!

I will keep thinking for you though, I might get a brain wave!!

Wow you guys are totally more creative than I could ever dream to be!

Yeah, we do have a Yankee Candle Company in the mall near me (the mall I wanted to go to yesterday but boyfriend wouldn't let me!), maybe I could get some candles from there and use Sarah's idea for the plate... hmmm...

Keep the great ideas coming!

Loving my beautiful baby girl
Candles were my first thought, Ariana! Maybe because I enjoy them so much, but also, they are always a gift of beautiful decor to complement a new home.
There are so many online sites with lovely candles, a couple are here andhere .

Thanks for the link Steph - they DO have some black candles so now I can get some black and white candles for sure!

I forgot to mention - this is kind of a gift (okay totally a gift) from both my boyfriend and I... does that change what I should get the parents?

I don't think it should change what you get for them because it is from you and your boyfriend! The whole idea of a houswarming gift is to give a welcoming gift that will add to the house and be a memory.

I think candles are a great idea as they are warming and comforting!

Thanks Sarah... one of my mom's suggestions was something Christmas-y but I like the idea of candles because they'll be there for more than a month, and she might get some use out of them!

I'm still up for any other ideas if y'all have em!

Ariana,

I'm always a big fan of the old standby - tart warmer and some yankee wax tarts. It's something that pretty cheap, too (which is an added bonus)!

Hey I have a question - I used to have a tart warmer way back when... how do you get all the wax that's stuck on the top off? Do you know what I'm talking about?

I would get them a pretty Vase with some fresh colourful flower, with candles (although i wouldnt get just normal white or black candles) if i had a black and white bathroom i would lighten it up with lila or orange candles

and chocolate!! And wine too if they are wine drinkers

Okay see now you're confusing me with a rich person!

Regarding the color candles - you're right... if she has a black and white theme it would make sense to give her diff. color candles, however I better ask my boyfriend to see what he thinks.

The vase and flowers sounds great - any suggestions on what kind of flowers would be good?

And I'll think about the chocolate and wine... those will have to be boyfriend ideas also.

Gee, I better save some of these ideas for Christmas present ideas! Lol! What a great girlfriend I am!

lol! well.... i dont know how much it costs over there but if you go to a supermarket a nice wine isnt over 5 euros,
the vase ive seen that are lovely!! are only 4 - 5 euros..
the chocolate depends on the store, i bought this big pack of Raffaelos for only 2 euros! and the flowers ive seen are about 3 euros unless you go to a petrol station so all together its only 20 dollars arounded off.
I absolutely love flowers but i have no idea of their names haha!
If you get roses get the peachy/pink ones. I find it they really brighten up my day when i see them.
Or else i go for the purple, pink, orange flowers.
but it also depends on the type of people your boyfriends parents are

*cant you tell i only like those colours!!* hehe
Ohh and even those white flowers are lovely! but it would be boring if it matches the house i think :p

.
Yankee candle has a wonderful black candle called Midsummers Night!!! (sorry if someone else already replied to this, I am too lazy to scroll
)

Their clean cotton candle also makes a really nice bathroom candle. If you get black and white may I suggest maybe unsented to the aromas don't clash.
Check out maybe Hot Topic or a Spencers!

LOL. I don't think it matters where you buy the candles... it isn't as though you are getting them a gift certificate for there!!! If it has some strange wrapper just unwrap it and put it in a nice holder. You don't have to tell them where you bought black candles!!!

Something really pretty that would require just a little work on your part...

Go to the local craft store. Pick up a large hurricane vase, a few pillar candles in different colors, some bells (the kind you find on clothing) and either pot-pourrie (sp?) or river rocks. Place a green or red pillar candle in the bottom of the vase and fill about 3" with the bells in Christmas colors (green, red and gold). Give them the other candle and the rocks or potpourie so they can change the mood of the candle after Christmas.

If his parents are anything like me, by this time in my life I'm sorely in need of new linens - towels and such to match the new bathroom decor, teatowels and dishcloths. This is all stuff you get when you get married, but then need to refresh as we "get long in the tooth".

Oh that's a great idea - just one question... how would I wrap it to give to them?

I'll have to look into that - though I'm afraid I'm not a very artsy person!
