Wow! Sorry but that sounds like you're playing with a human child, not a cat... and definitely not Penguin! Very cool!

WOW! A deliberate touch. One in which claws might have been involved in perfectly normal circumstances -- but were not. WOW. This is not little, Michele. This is a big demonstration of trust. She's not ready to blow the bundle, obviously, but the confidence level is astounding. Awesome.

I haven't been posting here lately, but certainly avidly reading. Michelle, you and Pengy have made significant strides forward. I wait with bated breath for the day when Pengy gets on your bed, snuggles with you and lets you hold and cuddle her. I'll keep those wishes in my thoughts and prayers for you both.

Ohmigoodness!

That is a big thing, there, she touched you, and played with YOUR fingers
not your wand, but your actual hand, she played the gimme game.
'How awesome!!

When I finally stopped, I laid the wand in front of her. Sure enough, she looked at me like I was offending her by stopping, and then laid her chin down on the feather part, closed her eyes, and just hung out there.
Wow Michele, that is amazing!!!
And then she played with you! I don't think your girl sees you as a bogeyman any longer. I bet she smiles in her "kitty way" when she hears you come home. You know she must take comfort in normal, daily routines and gets a warm feeling that her Mom's home, and everything's good.

This is such wonderful news!
I'm so happy for little Pengy, she sounds just adorable, I would love to see a picture of her. Best wishes to you both and I'm sure she will be cuddling with you before you know it!

SEE, I told you she finds you comforting!! There's no way she would have played with you like that if she didn't like you! I'm SOOOOO proud of Pengy for being so brave and playing with you and touching you with her paw!!

At the kitty's beck and call
Michele, that's amazing - what a wonderful girl she is. She was playing with YOU - not with a wand toy, but with you! Interacting with you. Not afraid to touch you.

How wonderful. Pengy

Maybe you guys are right...I hesitate to trust it, maybe because I'm worried if I trust that then I'll push her too far and she'll retreat. I dunno....maybe you guys are correct.

For instance...when I went to sleep last night, she was on the rocker. And when I woke this morning, I noticed she was still on the rocker. She didn't move or adjust anything, just watched me (albeit carefully) while I got my good mornings from the other 4 and then got up.

And then, after I had gotten ready for work, I went in my room to do something (I don't remember what), and she was in the tube. I stood there, outside the tube, and slid my two fingers in towards her. She lifted her head, and reached over and sniffed at my fingers. I was amazed...I know she did that recently, but mostly she does something once, and then it takes her a long while to do it again...but she sniffed me the other day, and now did it again. WOW. So I got a treat immediately out for her, and she let me lay it in the tube right next to her face, without moving. It was really interesting.

Maybe she doesn't see me as the boogey man anymore. Maybe the year she's lived in the house has created a routine for her that she likes, and that she now depends on.

Maybe.

(Lisalee, I keep forgetting to get the film to the developing place. I will make that a point tomorrow, and I'll get it on CD, so I can upload it. I would love to show her off...)

Michele

I have been silent until now, but I wanted to respond today.
I have been reading your thread and waiting until the next chapter like an episode of a daily series. I am so happy that Pengy is making so much progress. it is only a matter of a (short) time before Pengy gives you the long-awaited head-butt. I admire your patience and your love. It says a lot about your loving and sweet individuality.

Michele, you, your smell, your presence are all part of Pengy's new home -- probably, the first safe place she's ever known in her life. What's she's doing right now, I think, is showing and receiving love the only way she can. You are hardly the boogey man -- you are her guardian, her protector, the human who is slowly opening up her world and her life to good feelings, love, trust, and affection. Of course, she depends on you. You are probably the best thing that ever happened to her.

I think you're right - she's showing love and receiving love the only way she can at the moment, and isn't that nice??????

She's decided she is interested in the plastic ring. Again, yesterday, as we were playing with it, she deliberately touched me. I accidentally met her eyes, and she removed herself from the situation quite rapidly, but that's all right - my mistake, not hers. She didn't want to play today, so I haven't had a chance to show her I learned better. LOLOL....

Also, she has been hanging out in the rocker so much. She stays in it even when I am walking past it to the dresser and then back out to the bathroom to change. And she seems to find that a source of comfort, somehow. She was startled off the trunk tonight because Simon decided to jump at me, which made me move quickly. I thought she'd disappear behind the rocker or into the condo, but no, she wobbled over to the rocker and laid there. And she's still there, an hour later.

Small steps, but huge for her. Just gigantically huge for her. And am I proud of her? Youbetcha!

Just thought I'd update you all.

Another small/huge step for Pengy...

So over the last few days, I've been offering her my finger. Just one, slowly, gently extending it towards her nose. Through the hole in the top of the tube, or from the sides...only one. I won't do it if she's not protected in some way, like when she's in the rocker or on the trunk...only when she is completely protected, and access is limited. It makes her feel more safe, that way...at least to my thinking.

And each time I've extended my finger, 5 or so times in the last two days, she has reached forward and sniffed it. She has not touched me, but she has NOT fled, nor backed up, nor assumed a protective/aggressive posture whatsoever. She has leaned towards my finger, and sniffed...and not a quick little sniff, but a long "hrm...is she safe?" sort of sniff.

I think this is a really good thing...especially since it's at her face, you know? I don't think I'll get a headbutt, but I might get a fingerbutt (that just sounds wrong somehow...) sometime soon.

She is such a sweet cat.

I thought you all might be interested. Also, I was just thinking about it, and on March 4, she will have been with me an entire year. And what a year it's been.

Michele

That's great!

You know, since it has been a year, maybe you can write a summary, on how you found her, and give us an overview on how things progressed.. i've love to read it

I am working on it...I think it will be a fun thing, from discovering her to the sniffing (yes, she did it again...just about 20 minutes ago...). I'll put it up on March 4th...deal?

And yes, Clixpix, a gigantic step for Pengy-kind!!

Looking forward to it, Michele. That is a lovely little -- but oh so big! -- development. Who knows, maybe a tiny lick?

Thank you for the updates, Michele. Little by little, she definitely seems to be showing you signs that she places increasing trust in you!
