Hi, everyone!

Ohmyword!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, not a headbutt, not even a beadbutt. But a huge demonstration of curiousity and trust.

I was kneeling at the rocker where Pie was sleeping (her usual before-dinner nap spot), and cuddling her, waking her up for dinner. Pengy is in her tube, facing me, very close to our side edge. As Pie begins to purr, I slowly stretch my hand out, palm down, and lay the tips of my first two fingers on the edge, literally 1.5 inch away from Pengy's nose. Still with my head buried in Pie's belly, and her purring up a storm, I feel the eversosoft puff of breath on my fingers...and then a cold nose on my fingernails. I stayed stock still, even as Pie slid out from under me, and hopped to the trunk. It didn't happen again, but I didn't move until I could tell she'd moved back a bit. I popped to my feet, grabbed the treats, and gave her two.

WOWOWOWOWOWOW!!!!!!!!!!! This was the very first time she's ever touched me voluntarily, and the first time with her nose. I've touched her, and she took the ham off my fingers at Thanksgiving (with her claw), but she's never ever touched me with her nose, or stretched over to do it.

GO PENGY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm in tears.

I just had to share that with you all. This is sooooooo amazingly amazing.

YIIIIIIIIIIPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best-
Michele

At the kitty's beck and call
PENGY!!!!! What a wonderful girl you are
.

Michele, I'm so happy for you and Pengy. For you Michele because you have put so much of your heart and soul into caring for this poor little kitty - it's lovely for you to get these affirmations of trust. Happy for Pengy because she's got a home that she likes and feels safe in.

What fantastic news this is
. You've crossed the divide - the only way is forward!!

Nothing new...but I am still sitting here, wondering and in awe over that most brief moment of trust.

She was on the rack last night for easily 20 minutes, just watching me and Simon and Esse and Pie. Just sitting there, watching. When I lie down, all the cats do their walking on me. I wonder if she's curious as to why they walk on me and not get hurt and come to the hand for some loving. I wonder if that's what she's wondering...you know?

I've got a monster week planned, but there might be some time for me to go to a few stores and see what I can rig up as a bridge.

Thanks, everyone. I appreciate the support, and believe me, Pengy appreciates it too.

Best-
Michele

OMG - this just gets better and better. I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes - very happy, emotional tears.

I know it's terribly over-used, but AWESOME is the only word I can think of right now to describe how I feel.

Living in the land of not enough time
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Way to go Pengy!!!
Kudos to you Michelle for getting her to this point! I don't think I would have this much patience!!

Can you make some sort of ramp from the bakers rack to the end of your bed? Clamp the ramp at both ends so it won't tilt or fall over and carpet it. Then show it to the rest of the kitties and let Pengy watch them skamper back and forth.

Sandy, great minds must think alike! LOL...I am shopping for that stuff tomorrow. Hopefully it will be sufficient...and also hopefully I will have my camera working to take pictures of everything. Wouldn't that be fun? I'll do my best, and hopefully that will be enough.

Who could have told you before you met Pengy just how much a tiny breath and the touch of a nose could mean?

HOORAY!!!!!!!!!!!
You know, the nose touch made me cry. I think I'll be a mess should she ever decide to headbutt me. Just a simpering mess.

I also wanted to share that I think Simon spiked Pengy's dinner last night. I couldn't believe it, but when I came into the bedroom to go to sleep, Pengy was already on the rack. I didn't turn my back exactly, but made it a major point to get onto the bed as quick as I could. Simon followed me immediately, so we wrestled a bit and played a bit and loved a bit - with me sitting up in the middle of the bed...Pengy never left the rack. She stayed on the middle level and really watched. Eventually everyone else came to bed and got their lovin', and then I laid back to read...and Pengy never left. She was still there when I shut the light off and rolled over.

And then the wildness began. Pengy went playing. Around and under the bed, onto the trunk, behind the levelor blinds, onto the condo, back to the rack...around and around. Simon couldn't resist, and joined this playtime. The others decided to stay on the bed where it was warm, but this went on for a while. Pengy hasn't got great mobility, and she crashes a lot, but she was having fun...and didn't leave the bedroom to do so.

Made me smile during the destruction. Wasn't too bad, but it was worth every bit of the banging to hear her romping.

I wanted to share that with you all.

Oh, Michele! I always tear up when I read these posts. It's just so moving to hear how little by Pengy is getting her life back and learning to love and trust again.
(good tears)

I can only imagine how you must feel these days. Pengy is truly a gift of God to you and you to her. This is one of my favourite threads and I have to just keep coming back to see each new step you and Pengy make. You and Pengy have quite a fan club! Keep us up to date with all the news and each little step, please.

She is indeed a blessing to me.

Lisalee, thanks so much for your comments! I'm glad you've enjoyed the story with no ending...LOL...

Lastest is...

NADA.

I haven't built the bridge yet; I've not even bought the stuff for it. Hopefully after the chiropractor on Thursday I will be able to get that done. The only thing which is new is that several times I've found her on the trunk.

The trunk is another piece of furniture in my bedroom...it lays beneath the window sills, and has a quilt on it for warmth (I don't need it most nights, so I leave it out for the kitties who don't want to be on the bed...). Pie loves to sleep on it, and I've been known to come and cuddle Pie while she's there with Pengy watching.

Like I said, I've found her there several times, but she always fled with I came into the room. Well, she didn't tonight. I came to get her dinner dish, and there she was, snuggling on the quilt. She raised her head, and watched me get her dish, and love on Pie who was sleeping on the bed. Pengy stood up, stretched as best she could (she tends to wobble while she stretches), and then just sat there, watching me.

I went and got her dinner ready, and when I brought the dish back in, she was under the bed waiting for it.

So while it's not a big thing, it is a really interesting one. She was totally vulnerable (nothing near to hide in/under), the lights were bright, and her entire reaction was stretching unhurridly and then going to her spot for dinner. Ears weren't back, no upset/aggressive behavior...just her getting up from her nap for dinner. Like any other cat. How cool is that!! Just like any other cat.

Anyway, like I said, not big at all...but definitely a wonderful thing.

Best-
Michele
