MyRage had a false pregnancy, and the shelter called with three little three week old kittens that needed a foster mom. MyRage is still puffy, so we are going to see if she will accept the babies. She is lactating still, I hope enough so she can help these babies. I've got my stepmom coming over when I go to work, just to be near to see that everything goes well. I've got a box ready for her (if she accepts them). I'm going to read as much as i can in the next couple hours before we go to see if it will work. any advice, links, or anything will be greatly appreciated. I know the shelter will give me lots of advice and instructions as well. I hope she can help them.

i think you put a little butter on all the kittens and when she cleans them she thinks their hers... but maybe that's when you try to combine litters

....hmm. I think it'll work for this purpose as well though.. or maybe a dab of PB on each head to make them taste like something she likes, so she licks'em and then they smeel like she does? I have no idea the reasoning it works.. *lol* I'm imagining kittens smeared in Peanut butter. I used to smear a fingertip of skippy on Paige's paw every once in a while when she wouldn't groom. She did start grooming, I think hoping that I has smeared PB on her butt too.

first hurdle hurdled. She took them in!! She first smelled them, then immediately started cleaning their hind ends. So far they've all hunted down her nips, and sucked. How do i tell if they are getting anything? I have a bottle, and kitten formula on hand. NO COW'S MILK!!
Thanks!!!!!!!

MyRage met the kittens about 1:20pm today. They are laying peacefully with Rage cleaning them in the bedroom. She's doing all the mother things with the kittens. There are two tabbies, I believe are male. And a black one, with a stub where her tail should be, I believe she's a girl.

The shelter ended up with them a few minutes before they called me. They fed them their recepie of glop. MyRage met them, and started cleaning them. We left them in a room together for about a half hour, it was dark, and quiet. When we got back to check on them, the kittens were all cleaned up, and a little more quiet.

When we got them home, I set them up in a box, and they all settled down. The kittenes whined for a little while. They said that when the kittens got there, one of the tabbies was cold, and not moving, so a lady stuck him down her shirt. He warmed up, and is doing better, but I am keeping a close eye on him anyway. They all ate a little from an eyedropper. their tummies feel full. My dad's gf is coming over in a little while, she will look after them when I am at work tonight.
Rage is doing better. She didn't even notice I left the room. She looks so content.

I've taken some pics of them, so cute, I don't know where to post them though? thanks

Oh yeah, and one of the tabbies is purring

I just got home from work, kittens are all up and moving, trying to climb out of the box. Rage is laying there, and the babies are suckling. I don't know how to tell if they are getting enough. Rage is finally leaving me alone! She seems so happy, she finally has someone to clean and clean and clean.

The kittens where all making noise, so I got up and fed them. They all quieted down after eating. MyRage is keeping them very clean, and warm. Not sure if she is getting them enough food. I don't think she is. Two boys, one girl.

One of the little boy tabbies was so cold when he got to the shelter, that he wasn't moving. The staff thought he was dead. One of the ladies stuck him in her shirt, and he warmed right up. He isn't eating as strongly as the other two. The female seems to be eating with no problem.

The female is either black, or dark dark brown, with black stripes. She's got a stub for a tail (always thought a cat just didn't look right without a tail) Her back legs are a lot bigger than her front, she's just the cutest.

The other tabby seems to be doing fine. They all purr. They are all pretty wobbly walking. They have teeth. I couldn't tell if they had top teeth, but they have bottom teeth, and their fangs. I really hope everything goes really well for these cuties.
going to put up a MyRage's foster kitten page or something, they are all just so cute.

That's so sweet, sounds like myrage is a very happy momma kitty.
I was just wondering, is the room they are in nice and warm and draft free? The little one who was cold especially needs to be kept warm, he was probably hypothermic by the sounds of it.
Good job!

they have eaten again. One of the little males made it to the little dish of kitten food for MyRage, and he took a chunk and ate it. I didn't get there in time though. I thought it got caught in his throat, but he's breathing, and purring. Should I soften some for the babies? I also have a can of kitten food, should I give the babies that to try? They are all just sooooooo cute and sweet
any advice would be appreciated. thanks

They are all in our master bedroom. It gets pretty stuffy, but it is one of the warmer rooms. They are all active. I've been paying especially close attention to him. He is sitting on my shoulder right now. purrrrrrrring. I really love the female, but I am loving up the little one. I think the males are twins, they look sooo much alike, markings, and coloration.

THey are all doing good as far as i can see. I've been feeding them about every 2 to 3 hours. I am thinking that she either isn't producing enough, or she did start to dry up. She does such a good job keeping them warm though, and clean.

I saw the grossest thing though. One of the babies started to.. move his bowel... and Rage ate it. I was so horribly grossed out by that. Please tell that's what a mama cat does. I felt sick for a short while after seeing that.

thanks

Well...
...
The whole thing is gone... but... for anyone new who happens across this thread and ends up reading, I'll post that they all celebrated their 6month bday the day before yesterday. Merri, Pippin, and Lady NyghtShade all are healthy, big, bratty, and have happy forever homes. None of them ever ended up back at the shelter.

There were two tabbies, one male(Pippin) one female(Merri), and the one black girl with no tail, (Lady NyghtShade). Merrri n Pippin live together with their dad.
Nyght stayed with us.

Gargoyle, that was cool, finding the cache on Google. So, we could do other long threads the same way?

Yes, but what I found was that the cache link only went to that specific page. When I tried to go to the next page, the link was (of course) to thecatsite.com where the info no longer exists. I'm sure there are ways to link to the other pages but it might get complicated, esp. on the really long threads.

I'd try to figure it out, but since I'm at work, I should, um, go do some work instead of scatching my catsite itch

Search google with specific keywords, and then open a cached file.

Glad you made it back Kumbulu, I've been doing a little of a lot of stuff. Taking advice from the shelter, and from everyone here. I did mix some KMR with some canned kitten food, with a little bit of the stuff the shelter gave me for them, to enhance flavor. It's gerber chicken in gravy baby food. IT doesn't look like chicken or gravy, looks like mush. The kittens took right to it. They are kinda turning down the KMR more, they want the more solid. One of the boys keeps trying to eat dry kitten food. His teeth are so small still, don't think they are completely in yet. I redirect him to the kitten dish. They usually don't get as far as the dry kitten food. THey are so exploritive.

MyRage got her babies, without adding to the population, and making their kittenhood better. It's the neatest thing to see the little cat emerging from these cute kittens. The pictures will be cool for anyone who adopts the kittens, if they have the internet.

Last night durring their last feeding while everyone is awake...

The little girl ran to my hubby(LIke she always has, since the first night) and played with him. THe first night we had her, she played with the waistband of his jeans. She does that every night. The last few nights, she has been climbing on his leg, and just lay there looking around. Last night he made the comment.. 'she must like me'.

Me and our friend laughed. "She loves you, she picked you the first night. She has claimed you" I told him.

He sat there looking at her lovingly for a while. I noticed that he had a look in his eye. A .... a look I'm not really accustomed to. Finally about 45 minutes later he said "OH GREAT!! Does that mean I have to spend $40 and get ANOTHER cat?"

"YUP" My brother-in-law and I both said.

"Then we'll have THREE cats" my bro in law added.

"we have three already" Hubby answered.

"Myth doesn't count, we never see her" Bro in law defended

"I guess we do have a lot of room, and she has enough room to stay out of everyone's way"

I think my hubbie is falling for the little girl!! She's the one I chose that I wanted to keep when we first saw them. I"ve been REALLY Good about NOT saying anything about keeping any of them. I would keep them all if I could though. I have two cats myself. We have a third feline, who isn't owned by anyone, she owns all the men in the house. She also owns me, but she isn't too fond of me. That is a very long story.

Okay so to the update:

Last night durring their last feeding with anyone awake. They all ate WITHOUT paws in the food dish. They all groomed themselves by themselves.(mama helped them when they, and she went back in their house). They each used the box. Then they played and played and played.

I'm not sure if kittens patterns change as they get older or not. I can now kinda tell the runt from the other one. Their stripes on the sides of their faces are getting very distinct from each other. As well as one has more of a light brown color to him. The other one is more grey. If anyone who sees their pics can tell me what their coloration is... tabby and black is all I see. Trained eyes might see something different.

I watched both the Runt, and the other male(I call him buzz, he has such a cute little loud purrrrrrrrrr, and has been such a purry boy since we got him) both doing the side step thing last night. I also saw the girl do the halloween scared cat thing. Well, she has no tail, but her little stub stood straight on end!! SOOOOOOoo cute. She even got that little ridge on her back to her little puffball stub. She stood on her little tippy toes. She didn't do the side dance like the male though.

The runt IS the same size as his brother now. We had a hart time figuring out wich he was. But we finally figured it out when buzz pulled out his saw Little purrrrrrrbaby. Hubby don't like the name Buzz. but for now...

I wish I'd had a chance to weigh them when I first got them. Looking at pics of kittens around their age, they still look too skinny, but their slowly bulking up. I can see definate differences in them, physically, and mentaly.

The runt seems really spacy sometimes. Just sitting there watching everything around him. And out of the blue, with no warning at all, zoooooom -> He's off. He did the sidestep thing more than his brother last night. Then, he'll just relax, until one of his siblings gets close, then zooooom -> he's off again.

I watched them all get startled last night when my hubby coughed. The girl's hind end went up about three inches. Each of the boys jumped straight up, turned, and landed on tippy toes.(I think that's what started the side step thing with them).

I wish I could just video tape them, and put a video stream on... LOL, they are way-the cutest. This has been some of the happiest times I've had in a few years Those kittens have been great for all of us. We've had a lot of negativity thrown at us, and no matter how much positivity we each seeked out, the negativity was heavy. These kittens have helped us all to re-think everything. The new life has made us enjoy what we have. Loosing loved ones can kinda (after loosing a bunch) make a person almost feel like they have a death sentance. I'm glad the kittens came to us. I'm glad MyRage was able to help them. I'm still kinda sad that I don't get to see what HER babies will look like. She's the most beautiful cat. When these babies are weaned, we will make an appointment. The shelter will get us a discount for vaccinations and spaying for Rage. (GREAT NEWS!!!!!)

So... she's three years old.... Do I have anything to worry about since she is getting fixed so old? Not that three is old, but definately older than my other cats were when they got fixed. I'm lucky though. She got out. She met a male. She let the male do his thing. She went through an almost pregnancy. She didn't have kittens. She got to mother some. Some kittens got a better beginning. The shelter staff didn't have another mamma cat producing milk when they came in.

KL

ps... everyone should know by now I am unable to post less than three paragraphs... lol

OH NO!! This morning I woke up to the sound of MyRage's bell on her collar... No big deal, She was up by my head trying to look out the window. What alarmed me was I felt someone walking on my feet!! I know Myth would NEVER jump on my bed, or Mystyc. Since the kittens arrived, Myth will use MyRage's potty box, and hang out, but NEVER get on the bed. Mystyc steers completely clear of the bedroom all together.

So, I sat up quickly to find my little runt walking around on my bed!! Merry found a way to JUMP out of her box!!! MERRY?!?!?! Well, she must be feeling better today. She ate more this morning than she had the last couple days. HEr stool is still soft, kinda yellow, but not like it was. MERRY??? On my feet this morning... Okay, so the box sides might get higher today.

Any suggestions on keeping a runt in the box? LOL, I expected this from NightShade(Her full name is Lady NightShade ) OR even Pippin... Night is the manx, can there only be ONE manx in a litter? The other two have tails, but their hind quarters are slightly longer than the front. I've got to work tonight 3 hour shift. ANd the rest of the week I am on splits... that will suck for the babies though I won't be home to feed them. I've got my dad's gf stopping by to check on them.

Can't believe Merry got out of the box not ONCE or TWICE... but the THIRD time, I just let them all play on the bed. She hasn't tried getting out since, I think she really wanted some love. She ate, then came and laid down in my arms purring. After a while of purring, she started attacking my hair. She got so excited... what a cutie. Then she went and attacked her siblings. I worry for her when she is playing with the other two, I know they won't hurt her, but... She's smaller then them.

I my kittens. What a wonderful gift. The gift of life. I don't wish any litter of kittens abandoned, and I don't wish lots of cats to get pregnant. Fostering these kittens has been so wonderful. If anyone has the means, and the time, and the love, fostering a pregnant mama cat, or in my case, my false pregnant feline addopted these little babies... It's so rewarding. I'm glad it worked out the way it did... Lucky me and kittens.
