Is Natural Balance canned good? I went to Petco the other day and saw some other brands... ( Nutro Max, Pro Plan, Pet Gold, Old Mother Hubbard) Which one of those is recommended for wet foods? I was told Natural Balance is good so I feed that.

Natural Balance, Nutro (though some of their flavors I believe have garlic, which I personally chosoe not to use due to my belief that it may be harmful, as onions are known to be), Pro Plan are 3 I am familiar with and they are good foods. Pet Gold I am less familiar with (but as I recall they have new yummy flavor combos especially of the seafood variety), and I haven't any experience with Mother Hubbard canned food.

There is in this category a wonderful, long thread on cat food (a poll of what folks feed) that might be of interest to you to read through. I'm sorry I don't have that link in front of me (it's in notepad on my not-working computer...wah!) I will go look it up and edit it in

Here it is, click here

I think you have to decide what approach you want to take...a good solid food, a premium no by-products food, a super premium human grade ingredients food, and also base it on what your kitty likes. There are many foods that fit the above 3 categories
So you have lots of good choices!

I think you'll find reading the thread link above will be helpful.

Personally I love Natural Balance. I have tried all kinds of foods with my 4 cats & this is the only one that doesn't make them fat, which makes my vet very happy. They seem to like it a lot & it's considered high-quality by the rescue groups that I associate with. I originally chose it because it's one of the few high-quality foods that doesn't do vivisection or laboratory experiments on animals. All of the tests are done by owners who volunteer to feed their pets & who live lives just like our beloved pets & don't have to live in a lab cage.

Now that I've been using it for awhile I think it's wonderful. My cats have less hairballs, thier coats look great & I swear it helped one of my cat's asthma but I don't know how. Also their customer service people are very attentive & have answered any questions that I had. Hope this helps you.

Hi,

Only a few flavors of Nutro have garlic - and Nutro includes Max Cat canned, the Nutro Pouches, Nutro Natural ...the ones I found that do are from the Nutro Gourmet Classics - and only these: lamb and turkey cutlets, savory hunter's stew with duck (the same name but with venison did not have garlic), classic seafood & tomato bisque, turkey and liver saute.

I did not see where Natural Balance had garlic when I was researching their ingredients.

Wysong...their "All Meat & Organs" flavors do not have garlic but are not complete, they are meant to be supplemented. Wysong Anergen and all the gourmet flavors I checked the ingredients for, do have garlic.

I can not find any canned foods by Royal Canin.

Pro Plan has some flavors that are chunks in gravy (though check this, they have changed some formulations recently), the Nutro gourmet classics that do not have garlic may have some chunky or shredded formulations.

Active Life is another brand (super premium) that has shredded or chunky varieties, but this company is going out of production until some time in 2005, and is already hard to find as it is.

Pet Gold...you'll have to check the label for description if ground, chunked, sliced etc.

I would suggest you pick the brand you feel best about from what you see in the ingredient list, the price, the comments of folks in the thread I gave you a link to, then try just a couple of cans to see if your cat likes it.

You have to know this is all a plot by your cat to get you out there perusing the cat food shelves in various pet stores, constantly thinking of what she or he might like.
We are all so well trained by our cats
