Unhealthy Weight

Hi all Im worried about my cat Tiger. He is a 4 year old orange tabby and I think he may be sick. He has a very healthy appetite but it seems that the food isn't going anywhere. I feed him along with my other cats every day. I watch them eat and Tiger eats a food ammount of food but he continues to be so skinny. I worry that something might be wrong. My mom says nothing is wrong with him and we don't need to take him to the vet so I am hoping I can get some help here. I really don't like to see Tiger look like this. He is also looseing his fur. I think he may be very sick but cats tend not to show illness so im not sure. He is an outdoor cat and we live on a farm so im afraid he may have contracted an illness from another animal. Im just really worried and my mother isn't helping at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Danielle, a cat that eats well but continues to stay thin or become thinner is most likely ill. There are many causes but the most likely may be worms, hyperthyroidism or diahorreah. As you said Tiger is losing his fur as well (is it more than the usual summer shedding?), he needs to see a vet. If you can, collect a stool sample before you go so the vet can analyse it. Please ask your mom to take him to the vet with you.

I want to second what Kumbulu has said...only a vet will be able to tell you for sure what is wrong and what can be done to fix it...both re the fur and the weight loss.

I hope you can convince your Mom to take him to the vet, it may be as simple as his needing to be wormed...but for that, you need to know what kind of worms, and that is why Kumbulu suggested you take in a stool sample too.

Hope you can have him seen soon, and that it is as simple as getting Tiger wormed
