Hi there,

Ginger vomited a few times last night and seems lethargic. She also seems to be breathing quite fast but isn't too warm to the touch. She seems to also have lost her appetite. I'm a first-time mom so I'm really worried and am not sure what to do. I think I'll take her to the vet but should I take both of them together? (I bought a large carrier.) What if they fight on the way?

Some background:
I just adopted two kittens - Hoss last wednesday and Ginger last saturday. I initially separated them because all they do is fight. It wasn't until this Monday that I let them roam around together. I switched them to the Max Kitten Complete Care wet food on Monday.

P.S. Ginger likes to suckle on herself and Hoss has begun to suckle on her too. He likes to play roughly with her but I'm worried he'll get sick too.

What should I do? I would appreciate any advice you can give.

Thanks,
Amy

Hi there,

We live in the same area. How old are the kittens?

Dehydration is what you have to watch. What kind of food were they on before??? Sometimes switching foods can bring a very bad reaction, and should be done slowly over time. Do the "pinch test" on Ginger. Pinch the scruff of her neck between thumb and forefinger. The skin should return to its normal state when you let go within a second or so. If it doesn't and remains "tented" you need to get her to a Vet ASAP.

Good luck

Get her to a vet as soon as you can. Once you find out what is going on with her it may give you some insight as to whether to be worried about your other baby. Good Luck and keep us posted.
