Is this okay or a bad idea?

Hi my name is Jennifer, and I'm about to become a foster mommy to some babies
I am working on kitten proofing my house, and don't really have a specific "special" area for the kittens that I can close off or anything. I worry about letting them have free roam of the place until they get used to it, and until I'm sure that I've 100% safety proofed the house. Is it okay if I set up my old pack and play (like a playpen) and put them in there with food, water, and litter? at least until they are used to the new surroundings? or is that too confined of a space, or am I asking for trouble if they can climb the sides? If climbing the sides is the only issue, if I made it so they couldn't get out would that be alright? I don't want to leave them in a carrier for long periods of time either, but have read about the importance of introducing them to the house slowly. It's been a LONG time since I've had kittens especially ones this young.

TIA

Welcome to the site Jennifer! I think it's wonderful of you to be a foster mom to little kittens!

How old are the little ones you will be helping? The amount of space they need depends a lot on how old they are.

This website, www.kitten-rescue.com has a lot of great advice for hand raising kittens.

I had checked out that website but it just tells me pretty much that at 5-6 weeks you can move them to a bigger box, I'm a blonde, and need measurements LOL. Is a pack and play too big, or not big enough? It's big enough for a baby, I'd think 5 kittens would be okay LOL. I'm thinking especially it might be a good spot at night?

Welcome to TCS Jennifer!
If you need any help navigating the boards, please let me know!

Maybe just keeping them in the pack and play at night would be good for them. I think that they would climb right out of it anyway.

Welcome to the board....I'm sure Tania (our kitten expert) can answer any questions you have...you can find a post about her in the feral cat section and send her a PM if you prefer.
