Well I took Azalea to the vet for the vomiting and the vet said she has a tender stomach right now. So he told me to put her on a baby food diet for a couple days, gave me some vomiting pills (she also got a shot of it in her butt...wasn't a happy camper.) and we are switching off her Science Diet food since its not a very good food for cats (you'd think my breeder wouldn't have suggested it). I have a couple questions though.

Last night she vomited again around 1:00 am. I did give her some crunchy treats. Could this have upset her stomach and cause the vomiting?

She is on Clavamox for her UTI...has anyone had any experience with this medication? Did it cause your cat to vomit?

She did suck down her baby food this morning which I believe is a good sign. The thing that gets me is after she throws up its like she is perfectly fine. She gets all lovey again and purrs and jumps around. I guess I'm just a very concerned mommy. She is my first cat and I just want to make sure everything is fine. I guess giving her crunchy treats wasn't the way to go last night but she has lost her appetite, which is a side effect of the meds and when she eats something it makes me feel better.

Any information you guys could give me would be great. Thanks so much.

Tracy,

While Science Diet was not a food my guys ever liked, so I didn't use it, many folks, including her breeder apparently, use it with good results, and I assume this is what Azalea was raised on? So I'm not surprised the breeder recommended you continue with it...it was probably working well for her.

No, you should not have given her hard crunchy treats...resting her gut as the vet recommended and giving her just soft baby food, means nothing else should be given. You probably already know this
but I would be remiss if I didn't check - please be sure the baby food you are feeding does not list onion as one of the ingredients...onion is toxic to cats and can cause Heinz Body Anemia.

Clavamox..yup...some of my kitties will vomit with this...it is usually within a short time after they've had a dose. If you feel Azalea is reacting due to this, call the vet and ask about switching to a different antibiotic.

Hope she feels better soon!

When my kids are vomiting, they get grass, it helps to soothe their stomach. Cat grass is available at pet supply companies. Some of it is already growing, others you can plant. If your cat has a sensitive stomach, then you might want to grow a small patch for her.

Also plain yogurt with active cultures is good for stomach upset- The brand out here that works is called Nancy's. You can look on the front to see if it has active cultures or not.

Thank you for your help. If I remember correctly the only ingredients in the baby food was groud chicken and water. I'll double check though when I get home because I know onion is very bad for animals. I've just been so stressed I can hardly think.

So you think the treats upset her stomach again? I never thought that they could do it to, even though its not much different then her regular food.

As for her vomiting it usually after midnight and she takes the pills twice a day so I guess maybe its just her tender stomach, as the vet called it. I'm hoping it goes away soon because its making her mommy a basket case.

Thanks again for all your help I really appreciate it.

Hi Tracy,

I think it's possible it was the treats...just thinking that if your vet wanted her tummy/intestinal system rested, with just soft baby food being given, even the healthiest crunchy treat should just be saved for when she's feeling better
Once she feels better you can go back to treating her (cats in my house just love that word "treat!")
