I have these baby kittens that were quite obviously weaned way too early. Im not sure what the story is behind it, but either they were abandoned or their mama died. So now they try and suckle off each other. They root and dig in to eachothers tummies and find hair or something, because they make eachother all wet and its sooooo sad
Is there anything I can do to help them? They are on dry food now. It doesnt seem to bother the other kittens too much, it just makes me sad for them. Is this normal and OK?

I looked again and it seems like one has become the milking machine. All of them try to eat off this one little baby and some of them are actually getting little bits of skin to suck!!!
That cant be ok, can it? S/hes just laying there letting it happen.

My orphaned kittens did this and my vet advised it is quite common in orphans or those that left there mother too young. Mine did not hurt each other and my vet advised to watch for swelling, red/raw skin or cuts and separate them as necessary and bring them in for treatment. Since none of this happened, we let it happen.

I have little experience so can't offer more - perhaps Tania (Kumbula) has some tips?

Kat, if they are still quite young, they will need canned kitten food as well as dry. They may be hungry. You can also make up some kitten glop and offer it to them to fill their little tummies. Please go to www.kitten-rescue.com where you'll find a whole section on suckling kittens and how to deal with it as well as the recipe for kitten glop.
