After receiving Sierra's lab results in the mail last week, I was concerned about some of the values. Her creatinine is slightly elevated, causing concern about kidney function, as well as her cholesterol, and glucose, and her T4 is high normal. She also had trace blood in her cloudy urine, but they obtained her urine with a cysto and sometimes when the needle is inserted, it can cause the trace of blood. Also 1+protein, WBC's and RBC's. When I addressed these with her holistic vet, she said she was not concerned and that we would retest in 6 months. I decided to fax the labs to her medical Dr who has been seeing Sierra her entire life. He called me saying that he finds the results to be very significant and concerning.
He referred us to a feline internal medicine specialist at the Veterinarian Specialty Hospital of the
Carolinas. Sierra's appt is June 30 at 11:00. He says rather than chronic renal failure, it looks like a tubule defect.
He said he wouldn't wait more than two weeks and had already contacted the hospital about the appt when we spoke. She will have her labs redrawn and an abdominal x-ray then whatever the Dr. feels is necessary pending these results. He said it is possible her creatinine level was elevated due to decreased water consumption the night before and her glucose could possibly have been elevated due to the stress of the appt. Sierra has been perfectly healthy her entire life. With Sierra having her 10th Birthday in July, I realize the sooner we identify any potential problems, the better.
Please pray with me about this appt and my sweet baby!
This has been a very difficult week as I have been faced with something I never expected.
