what do you do to make yourself feel better? Right now I am having one very stressful time at work and would like to know how you guys manage your daily stress?

Next week I will be going up to the cottage and relaxing by the lake. But first I just need to make it through this week and try to manage this demanding job.

Well, unfortunately I usually eat
but recently I have been eating healthy things, not ice cream or candy. It helps.......

Perhaps it might help to do something physical to help flush the stress hormones from your body - try dancing, or going for a walk or run, or even punching a pillow followed by a nice long purr session with the furbaby.

Pet the kitties. Play with the kitties.

Oh, and sometimes I clean. Not often with that though.

And realize that the job isn't everything there is in life, and you are only one person who can't be Superman.

You've got to remember what my Gram always told me......"nothing good and nothing bad lasts forever" So, whatever is stressing you out now, won't last forever.....just do the best you can and to heck with everything else. Your best is all you can do. What do you do for a living?

Having a regular exercise routine helps me a LOT with stress relief. The past month or so has been pretty stressful for me, so I have really put my all into some extra projects, as well. I have painted my master bedroom, ripped out fencing in my yard, and started walking 30 minutes per day.

One of the techniques I use is deep breathing. Breath in slowly through your nose for 5 seconds and let it out slowly through your mouth for 5 seconds. My physical therapist recommended this, when I get really tight in my back-when you get stressed, you have a tendency to take shorter and shallower breaths which makes your chest and back tense up. Plus, it forces you to take a few minutes out of your day to pay attention to your body.

I write down how I feel with passion, and what I think would solve my problems. I set it aside for an hour and then read what I wrote. I usually end up laughing at myself

This is gonna sound silly, but if I'm super stressed I go home and take a nap. A nap always always makes me feel better.

I can't sleep when I'm stressed.

Something phyiscal helps me as well, or I just blast music.

((hugs)) just think about how nice the stay at your cottage is going to be. You'll get through it!

I go out and play with my horses, and just look up at the trees and that relaxes me. Then I go sit by the creek and just chill out for a bit. Before I go into the house, I make sure that I get two horse hugs from my kids. They love being hugged, and always rest their massive heads gently on my shoulder. Nothing better in the world when you are stressed than to have a horse hug you-

Trees!

Going for a nice long walk has always relaxed me, especially if I can find a nice, huge old tree to look at along the way. Something about being near a big old tree is incredibly relaxing - it's been there for so many years, and withstood so much.

I don't deal with stress all that well, I end up having tummy/teeth aches from clenching. I also find a nap works but I can't always do that but when it gets bad I use Rescue Remedy, ten drops and I am set. What is kinda strange though is that the Rescue tastes like cheap whisky....
So a boss might not understand why you smell like whisky!

And once again working off the stress does help as well, a nice walk is sometimes enough to help.

Thanks kittylover4ever, that's really what I need to remember! Right now, I'm a Records Co-ordinator for a large law firm. There is a high demand for these records and I'm running around all day trying to make sure the right records are delivered to the right people and trying to maintain the database. Many times there are urgent requests throughout the day and I have to prioritize them. I am hoping to get an assistant in the near future but right now I have to juggle all the demands.

...........

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, I'll be sure to get in some weekly exercise and practise deep breathing!
And Hissy, I would love to have a horse hug but Nakita is the closest animal to me.
I guess I'll settle for a little Nakita hug.
