Last Saturday we took my mom's girl Piper for a check-up and found out that she needs to have her teeth cleaned. At that time the Vet took blood for a pre procedure blood test and told me to call him on Monday (today).

I call edat 10Am this morning and was told he was not in yet but was expected within the 1/2 hr. At 2:30PM still no call so I decided to call but told he was out of the office and would return by 3:30PM for his next appointment. At 4:15PM I decided to call again and was told he was delayed - stuck in straffic and should be in shortly. I am now not a very happy camper, actually I am very P*&%^$&*& and worried. What the heck is his problem. In case the results weren't in that is fine but just have some call me back and say that instead of not taking the time for a 5 second phone call.

Ok I might be over reacting but ................................

I think we're talking about common courtesy -- something which seems to be lacking on the part of the vet and his staff.

You're right. If the results aren't in, and therefore there's no information to give you yet, they could just tell you that, and perhaps suggest when would be a good time to check again.

If the results are in and there's nothing to worry about, surely staff could be authorized to tell you that much, and give you an idea when the Dr will have a moment to call you with details.

If they're in and there is something to be concerned about (God forbid!) he should be putting something else aside to talk to YOU. NOW. Not keeping you dangling.

Yes, I'd be PO'd, too.

You you are not over reacting at all .

I would be ticked myself and worry sick , so your reaction is normal to me . I would call by the hour on the hour by now . In that area I sure can be a pain in the *** by that time . My baby's health first .

Now you go and get em

Personally I would probably start putting feelers out for a more responsible vet, and I would make sure to get a copy of the medical records the next time you get a chance, and also discuss your dissatisfaction with how you were treated.

If this is the first time this has happened, I would definately give them another chance, however, I would also take this as highly concerning. If the staff, or the veterinarian are not working together, in a responsible fashion, then I wouldn't expect much more for when they are actually attending to your animals.

This should be a professional that you can trust your animals lives to. If he or his staff can't be trusted to even return a simple phone call....I'd personally be somewhat hesitant to trust them with anything more important.

I agree 120%..........we're very lucky to have a kind, thoughtful vet. He always calls at night after he's seen our kids to see if everything is ok with them. I do't think y;ou overreacted at all.

It would tick me off as well

When i took Sophie for her second jab i asked if i could book Rosie in for her booster. The computers were down so she couldn't take any bookings, but said she would ring me if the computers got sorted, failing that i would have to ring first thing the next morning.

I expected to have to ring the next day, but an hour after getting in from the vet, my mobile went and it was the surgery to make my appointment

I have a very good, patient, understanding vets who are always on the other end of the telephone after the surgery is closed if i'm worried about anything

Well he finally called at 4:50PM and appologized. Her blood work came back clean - YEAH!!! I guess we'll leave it at that for now.

BUT I will check into another Vet just in case - I still have a bad taste in my mouth from the whole experience.

Well Helen, at least he called. Have you been happy with him up until this point?

I am glad that everything came out ok
If you have been happy with this vet so far, then maybe give it a little more time there.... But I think you really have to go by your gut on this one. You should be comfortable with you vet.

He is my mom's VET and Piper never had problems before so we only saw him once a year for the anual poke and jab.
So - let's see!

Thanks for letting me know that I am not the only one that feel this way - she is our baby girl and she deserves the best!!

It's good that he called you. Did you explain to his staff you wanted the results? I didn't see that in any of your posts...or were you just calling and they told you he wasn't there and then you hung up...???

Yup I told the staff that the doctor had asked me to call in regard to Pipers results of her blood test. As a matter of fact I spoke to the same girl all three times and when I called the third time she already knew my voice and sounded a little embarrassed/intimidated - hmmm probably did have that slight edge to my voice
!!
