Help!

I have read the peeing problem advice thread and tried the following but to no avail!
I have tried:
changing cat litter from feline pine to regular cat litter
citrus peel
tin foil
'no mark'
natures miracle stain and odor remover

what really is an effective deterrent?
My two cats definately also use the litterbox to pee so i don't know why they have to use our couch too !
we have had them for a month now and adopted them from kittykind ny.
I do recall the first night they pooped and peed on the couch as we had feline pine as litter instead which they didn't like so perhaps they have just got into bad habits.
Please help as it's driving me mad!!!!

You didn't say that you took the cats to the vet to be checked for urinary tract problems. This is the most important step to take in stopping innappropriate urination. Stress can cause urinary tract infections, since this is a new adoption, they may have become stressed and then become ill as a result.
