I have noticed lately that my almost-year-old Tigs will tote almost anything in his mouth around the house. I don't mind mice and tissues and socks and such, BUT he also totes my kittens that were born on Good Friday around, just like mom does (they don't mind), and he wants to tote my little new baby around that way too, and keep him corralled up in the living room, in front of the television......the baby fusses about it, but he doesn't seem to hurt him, 'cause when Tigs puts him down, the baby goes right back to him. Should this worry me, or will it hurt anything in the long run? I should note that this is the same cat who a)lost his mom at about 3 weeks old, and b)washes anyone, furred or not, that wanders by him.

Cindy, as long as he isn't hurting the little ones and the mom-cat isn't getting mad with him, it sounds like his behaviour is harmless.

Mom-cat doesn't care, and the little one is motherless, so I suppose all is well, its just kinda wierd to me to watch a male cat tote kittens and mother them like he does! I think he's having an identity crisis, he doesn't know if he is male or female, and he thinks he's human like his furless mommy (me). Thanks!

Cindy,

Kahuna did this a lot with new kittens, even though he was male. He really helped to raise a lot of small ones, since they were orphaned, and although he couldn't very well feed them, he did everything else a mom cat would for them. I didn't call him strange, I called him a godsend!

Hi,

Actually both of my female kittens tote around somethimes each of there catnip mice and will drop it at my feet and look at me as to say, "aren't you proud of me".

Oh by the way, I always give them a big scratch and a long huge afterwords.

He did that for the babies too, even though they had a mom, bathe them and stimulate them to potty too....I've just never seen it before! Whats scary to me is if you see a pic of Kahuna and look at Tigs, there is a lot of similarity in their looks, even the blue eyes!
