My black cat Pepper has this habit of backing up to things and it looks just like he is spraying.Nothing comes out,he just I guess you could call it,mock sprays.
He was neutered pretty young and never sprayed in the house or anything so I know it is not just where he was so used to doing it.
Most of the time when he does it is when he wants to be petted. He will be in one of his loving moods and meowing at me and then he just backs up to something and acts like he is spraying it.
Does anyone else's cat do this?I have never had one to do it before. It doesn't bother me at all.I think it is funny when he does this(which is quite often),but I was just wondering if anyone else has or has had a cat do this or if my cat is just weird.LOL.

Tail twitching and everything?

Yah, I've seen this too, it's cute IMO. I'm not quite sure why some cats do this, but I've seen quite a few males, and even a female do this, so it's nothing terribly abnormal.

So long as the cat isn't exhibiting any signs of being uncomfortable with his surroundings, I wouldn't be worried in the least.

Just laugh and love him as much as he will let you

Yep tail twitching and everything.Looks JUST like a Tom cat spraying.LOL.
I have 11 cats(7 of which are males)and he is the only one that does this.I do think it is cute and it is not a problem,I was just curious if anyone else had seen this behavior because I just find it strange because he was neutered young so it's not ingrained into his brain to do this.LOL.

Ok.Since you have seen this as well, then I guess he isn't too weird.

I'd suspect that it is an ingrained behavior, however the spraying aspect is more a physiological behavior. I've always wondered too though.

My Coco (female 3 year-old Aby) does this in exactly the same situation as yours. She backs up, tail shivering, back feet marching a little. As long as nothing comes out LOL, I think it's fine. Like your baby, she does it when she wants pets.

OMG! This is exactly what Joey does! Lately it has become even more frequent and is definitely connected to wanting attention.

My male cat Tigger did this at first..then my female (who absolutely looks up to her big brother) started doing it as well....by last count...the dishwasher was "owned" by Tigger....the bathroom door was "owned" by Habenaro....the door to my roommate's room was "owned" by Tigger....the toilet was "owned" by Habenaro....and so it goes. The scary thing is I think they both "own" my bed...so now I don't know what I own anymore.

My Red does the same thing when he wants attention. It is a great conversation starter when we have company who is not familiar with cats.

Kumbulu..that's what I figured..and why I cannot leave home without some Tigger and Habenaro fur on me everyday. SHHHHHH...don't tell them...but I cheat on them every Friday when I work with the rescue cats...I always come home smelling "foreign".
