I'm just asking this because right now on my right shoulder sits Highway and on my left shoulder sits Acorn(My two kittiens) LOL I should get some pictures. They are kneading away, they love sitting up their and they love "batting" my hair when I move my head, They are so cute! So do your kitties perch?

Constantly - JC isn't a lap cat, but he loves shoulders. He's too big to fit on one shoulder now, so he drapes himself across both. Since he's particularly affectionate in the morning, I've learned to put tops on first, and to put my contacts in and my make-up on with him supervising the job I do "close up". He has no trouble at all jumping from the floor to my shoulder, although I'm 5'6" (168 cm).

Yes! WHen Dori was a baby she went right up to sit on my shoulder, and now that she is too big she lays right across the middle. If I happen to be standing and pick her up she will lay right across and hold on while I walk around and do whatever it is I was doing. Once she even stayed up there while I cleaned up the dishes.

I think I have told this story before, but when she was a kitten she liked shoulders so much that when our cable guy came out to do some repairs little Dori ran across the room climbed up the guys leg and planted herself on his shoulder. He was stunned! My boyfriend started apologizing to the guy and he just said, man I wish my own cat would greet me like that

Yes, Beau always has. Many times I have sat with Felicia curled on my lap, and Beau laying on my shoulder.

Today in Petsmart I saw a worker with his 8 weeks old kitten on his shoulder while working at the cat section.
They (cat + man) seemed to be in perfect harmony, and he doesn't mind the claws at all! This amazes me. (I guess I still have little bit left-over fear for cats
)

My 3 week old Hi!Mimi loves to climb on me then proceeds towards my shoulders whenever I hold her. However, I know that she still doesn't have the balance and agility a mature cat has, and I've always worried that she would fall off me, so I actively discourage her from human-climbing. Besides, I have extremely sensitive skin; the first couple times Himimi crawled onto my shoulder, she left red long scratches by my chest that I had to wear turtleneck to cover up for days.

I wonder about the feline psychology behind this behavior. Does my kitty gain satisfaction once she reach the height of her responsible one?Or is it in cat's hunting nature that they simply like to be on the look out so they usually sits high and look down?

puzzled,
gingita

IA. If you need me, just meow..
Rocket likes to climb on my shoulders. He's not very agile though since he's a pudgy monster! LOL! so I usually end up with claw marks and him on my back and me hunched over. it's a pretty comical site since I don't have the heart to take him off of me, I usually walk around hunched over going ouch, ouch, ouch, until Brad finally comes and takes him off of me.

Never! A 15-pound cat with long claws on the shoulders of a 120-pound woman? Not on your life! (I really must get that cat's claws trimmed. It has been months.)

Neither one of my current cats do that ..... yet.

But when I volunteered at a local no-kill shelter a gorgeous Russian Blue kitten did every day I was there.

I have three 7 week old foster kittens who think climbing up my back and sitting on my shoulders is the funnest thing since poucning on each other's tails
They play "king of the castle" on my back when I sit down in their room

But one of them, Rottweiller (he's a Manx X and all black, and he wags that stump, I swear..) truely loves to be on my shoulder...when rbing all three downstairs to meet visitors, he scrambles to be on my shoulder, and then stays there very calmly

There's no place like home
My over the bridge Manx cat Max loved to ride my husband's shoulders. He would get home from work, put him up on his shoulders and go about his business - I saw him cook an entire meal with him perched up there (for about 1 hour). Max was 18 pounds at his peek weight, so this was no easy feat.

Scarlett does it now - she's 7 pounds and a lot easier to carry around.

Shoulder riding has been exclusively a kitten activity in our family.

The real shoulder camper was my old lady (RB) Shasta. She perch up there for what seemed like hours, while I went about my business -- she especially liked to watch while I cooked, but never once interfered with the food. Sorry no pics available from that era.

Suzy also was known to inhabit a shoulder from time to time, as a kitten...

Thanks for all the replies. Good to hear I'm not the only crazy one who lets the cats sit on my shoulders, although I don't think I'd let the cats, they might be a bit heavy but for the kittens it's cute! Cute pics as well, I love the way Nakita wraps right around Robs neck.
Good to see alot of new members getting involved in the discussion to, makes me happy.
Oh and another thing my kittens don't climb up me, if I'm sitting at the computer they will jump on from there!
