I've had neuters already, but I just had my first spay (2ndfloorcat) four hours ago!

The vet let me watch it, and I did to make sure he did a good job.

I learned a lot!!! It made me wish I had taken Veterinary Medicine instead of Engineering. Boy am I so happy!

The momma cat was easier to catch than the kittens. They gave me a lot of trouble last night with all their hissing and scratching and biting! I put her and her kittens in a crate, put it in the back of a taxi and brought them to the vet. I took the kittens as well because they had to get treated for mange. Now I'm back here at the University, she is still sleeping, and I left her kittens in a crate in the 2nd floor. Those kittens are going to be lonely without her, but they'll be okay. Now it's all over and I'm so relieved. No more litters from 2ndfloorcat!

My mom fetched me from school and we took the cat home. She is now getting spoiled. Her diet used to be just garbage but now she is trying out all sorts of food -- her favorites are raw eggs, sardines and tuna.
Yesterday she used to be afraid but whenever she would meow "It hurts" or "I miss my babies" my mom would talk to her. Mom talks to her all the time and she talks back. My mom named her "Una" -- that means "first"! Una is recovering very nicely.

While mom is busy with momma cat at home, here I am in the University tending to the kittens. I think they really miss their mother; they're so scared and timid.
I am going to give them a warm bath and a grooming tonight, because they are getting so dirty without their mama-licking, and being clean would help their mange.

I am going to buy some cod-liver oil tonight for the cats' digestion.

I need good vibes for the kittens' health, they're really depressed with momma not around.

It's a very interesting procedure

Medicine is both simple and complex at the same time.

Thanks for sharing,

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Apart from the very first litter - that started us on TNR and cat rescue - after that mom, we had so many male cats. We couldn't figure out where all the kittens were coming from, LOL! I know that joy of FINALLY trapping a female cat.

WAY TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But I never would be able to watch a spay operation - or likely any kind of operation!

Thanks for the prayers!

I couldn't stand the kittens being caged here at school depressed so I caved in and brought them home. At first Una didn't want them, but when she heard the little black kitten meowing while we gave it a warm bath she let out a big meeowwww!
We gave the kittens a bath and let them snuggle up to mama. Una's stiches are healing nicely and she even let the kittens suckle.

Sadly we are not going to keep the kittens. I can't keep them at home --landlord issues-- so they are going back to school where they will be fed on a regular basis (by me) and upon reaching the proper age they will be altered as well.

Yeah, spaying a female is a relief. No matter how many males I do there is still the nagging worry that the females might find a new boyfriend. A spay is sure and final!

When I left for school this morning Una and her two kittens were streched out in the yard sunning themselves.
They are so contented they don't want to escape. My mom is keeping an eye on them and I am going home early now to join the fun.
