I clean out the two litter boxes twice a day and renew the litter once a week.

There may only be two clumps of wee in each of them. So why does Sophie nearly always wait until i've scooped them out before she decides to jump on and leave a 'parcel'?.

It's like watching a kid on a potty!, i have to sit with scoop in one hand and litter bag in the other until she's finished so i can scoop it out?.

both my cats do a similar thing - as soon as I have cleaned both trays - taken the bag to the outside garbage bin I come in and at least one of them is doing some business...

is it because some scent has gone??? thats what I always thought...

Thats what i was thinking, and but then i thought the soild balls of wee were only small, and surely she could still smell something even if it's only a couple of bits of litter?

A couple of our guys have to go in every litter box after I've cleaned them, just to make sure I did a good job. And that's a lot of inspecting, we have 5 Jumbo litter boxes!

I think some are just picky, either that or spoiled, since we know none of our babies are spoiled we will go with picky!
Dori will meow for me to scoop if I don't get up fast enough (I scoop every morning) and she moniters me scooping, then she will sniff around and if all is clear she will use it. I have to make sure the box stays in the exact same spot, if it is moved slightly on either side she meows and looks up at me. Her monitering is the funniest part. When I clean out the entire box she watches every step I make with the litter, when its in the tub she sits up on the side

Yup-my Mischa is just the same. She will come running as soon as the litter bag is moved. She stands and waits for the litter pan to be emptied and the new stuff put in and then jumps in, even in mid pour. None of the others bother but Mischa MUST be first to use it and gets quite sniffy if one of the others gets there before her. Sometimes I swear she really doesnt want to go but sits and pretends just so she can be first

Both my cats do the same. AND they expect to be praised for the job well done!
They are really proud of themselves when they pee in front of me and I tell them how good they were. Maybe it is a mom-kitten thing? Who knows. But it is so cute.

You mean you can get away with two balls of urine in one box? Consider yourself lucky! I have one picky cat, Red Cat, who will whine then if I don't jump to clean the box, demand to go outside to do is duty if the boxes have previously been used. And I had better have got every little 1/8 inch clump of urine-saturated litter out of there, too, or he carries on.

I am really concerned about what is going to happen when I leave for a two week trip soon and have someone come in only once a day. I think I'll cover my bed and the sofa with a plastic drop cloth to make sure he doesn't find that a better place. And I may add two more litter boxes, too.

That sounds just like JC. He especially loves all-new litter, and will jump in the box and use it while I'm carrying it back upstairs. It was cute when he was little, but 13.5 lbs. of cat landing in a heavy litter box is no joke when you're going up a spiral staircase.
