Tipsy LOVES to drink water from the bathroom tap - he gets up on the bench and just sits there until someone turns it on for him. I dont know when this all started - or how it started.

however the problem is - he will only drink from the tap
I have however seen him drink from the fish pond outside.

what I have been doing is everytime I see him sitting up there I re-fill his bowl of water and put him down on the floor - occassionally and I mean only occassionally he will drink from it - but its frustrating me...

is there anything else I can do? I know if he is really thirsty he will drink eventually - but he just sits there and sits there...

and of course as all little brothers - Cedar immediatly follows Tipsy up there and wants to drink from it as well - thankfully Cedar will drink out of the bowl and only goes up there when Tipsy is

silly tipsy - silly boy

My Sheba does the same thing-she loves drinking out of a faucet-she drinks out of toilet too. I can't say if I've seen here drink out of water dishes. She is 9 years old so this is a well developed habit!! She also will drink out of kitchen sink, bathtub-she has me well trained.

to be honest - i dont really care if he drinks out of the tap (faccet) but we are on heavy water restrictions here in melbourne and my husband and I are very particular about making sure there are no dripping taps or anything and we dont really want to have to turn a tap on for him...

Red Cat used to want to drink out of the bathroom faucet when I first got him. But I was able to switch him over to drinking out of a bowl in the tub. Now the only place he will drink is out of a bowl in the tub. And does he ever let me know if I didn't put it back there after my bath!

LOL- This reminds me of a friend of mine whos cats figured out how to TURN ON the water faucets. They had to always remember to leave the drains open so that when they turned the water on it wouldn't flood the house. They actually did flood it once- she had to replace the carpet for half the house and everything. But she has about ten cats, and it's like they all learn new tricks from each other.

I was interested in that drinkwell fountain for my cat for some of teh same reaons but isn't it plastic? I was under the impression you shouldn't feed and water a cat out of a plastic bowl - do they make them in any other material?

That sounds like my Sophie all the way. Definetly let us know how the fountain works out for you. I am thinking about getting one for my babies.

I just bought a fountain yesterday and boy is it freaking out my cats! Any suggestions on introducing this to them? The older cat loves drinking from the sink so I thought this would be good for him. We set it up and put it out and they both kinda lurked around it with their hair standing straight up. Over the next few hours I sat there with them and played with them near it, fed them near it, and gave the older cat treats right on top of it. The older cat isn't scared of it anymore, but I don't think he "gets" that it's a water bowl either. The younger cat wants nothing to do with it at all. Will it just take some getting use to or is there anything else you can think of that I could do?

thanks for any tips!

That's so funny your cats dont like it- mine love it.. Jasmine is so picky though that after she discovered the faucet, as well as teh drink fountain, she found the bathtub faucet.

Now she will drink when she is thirsty but she will go over and jump on the rim of the tub and meow until i turn the faucet on, gather water on my palm, and let her drink out of my hand.

Not to mention when i fill up a cup to refill her water (it evaporates quickly so have to do this often, not just when cleaning the fountain out) she runs circles around my legs and mews and mews for water. its the darndest thing.
