My female cat Tika, a few days ago I noticed that she smelled of urine and her bum was wet and kind of red so I washed her. The problem however came back today and I am wondering what this could be?

I've never heard of anything like that. I'd suggest you call your vet & get her in to be checked - it sounds uncomfortable, poor thing. Also, cats are usually very good about keeping themselves clean, so if she smells of urine she may be ill.

That could be part of the problem there. If she is a long-hair, ask the vet to shave her back and her rear to help keep the problem under control. Then talk to your vet about putting her on a safe and effective diet and go from there.

That's probably part of the problem. I just had to wash Bender's butt third time in 2 days...this time I used a comb and a pair of scissors and trimmed all his butt-hairs. I'll spare you the details but he sure has been getting his butt messy lately! I hope that helps. And I don't recommend trimming the hair unless you can hold the comb against their skin and cut above that so you don't cut the skin. I did that one time when I was a kid and I felt horrible

That will do it...urine will irritate the skin and can be what is causing the redness (and soreness) poor girl! A gentle wash and a shave by the vet, will be one step in the right direction for her.

Is it possible that she has her period? I mean, I know it won't be on her butt, but, when she sits down it might end up there? Just a thought.

You can use desitin ointment on her sore bum- that will help her with the urine scald. Or you can use olive oil poured on a soft cotton roll and dabbed on her poor behind. Does she have diarrhea?
