I was thinking this morning about all the neat books I grew up with when I was a kid-

The Boxcar Children-
All of a Kind Family-
Stuart Little
Brighty of the Grand Canyon and
Nancy Drew were some of my favorites.

What were some of yours?

Living in the land of not enough time
The Bobsey Twins. a series of books based on the adventures of a family with 2 sets of twins. They went to the farm and camping and solved easy mysteries. Stuff like who took the bucket out of the shed.

The Outsiders and That was then, This is Now. Books my nephews and neices are reading now.

I guess I'm such a dork. I read over and over:

The Wind in the Willows
Charlotte's Webb
A Wrinkle in Time
A Separate Peace
The Incredible Journey
Call of the Wild
Tales by Edgar Allen Poe
Harriet the Spy (all time favorite, I actually walked around the neighborhood every day for a month spying and writing things in a notebook. If somebody asked me what the heck I was doing, I told them my name was Harriet. I was 10.)

Back in my picture book days, I used to LOVE a book called, "If Everybody Did" by JoAnn Stover. It has been out of print for a long time, but I recently found a new paperback version on amazon. I bought it immediately.

I also liked Nany Drew, the Happy Hollisters, books by Beverly Cleary, especially Ramona the Pest, From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, and the Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle series.

One of the best things about being an elementary school teacher is sharing books that I liked with kids. Reading aloud is one of my favorite things to do at school.

oooh I love Beverly Cleary!

And I loved Enid Blyton books - my favourite were the Faraway tree series and the Naughtiest Girl in the School series. I should look for them.

I also loved the Little House on the Prairie series as well

Jane Eyre (as I got older)

One of the best books I read in the early 70's was called Five Smooth Stones - I actually ordered a copy in recent years from a publishing house in Boston just so I would have a copy in my library.

Here were some of my other favorites

Mimi the Merrygoround cat
Courderoy
Charlotte's Web
Judy Bloom Books
Horton Hears a Who
I first read To Kill a Mockingbird when I was 10 years old. It is still my favorite book of all time.

Two series that came to mind right away for me are Babysitter's Club and Sweet Valley High. Other books though... hmmm...I liked Black Beauty a lot, Charlotte's Web, Nancy Drew books, and the Ramona books. I always had my face in a book! I have the worst memory, though, so I can't think of anymore.

My all time favorite author was Judy Blume, I had all her books.
The Bobsey Twins, Sweet Valley High, The Baby Sitters Club, and The Boxcar Children were also favorites.

Having no memory is good you get to reread a great book like it is the first time.
