I am so hooked on this show. If no one knows what it is, it is featured on the National Geographic channel and they take people in the United States and transport them into isolated areas to live with different cultures. It is quite interesting. This latest one concludes tonight. They took 2 couples who are unmarried but living together from New York and put them into an African Village to live. The chief refuses to let them dwell together as they are not married, so they put the women in one hut, and the men in the other. Then the men have to prove themselves "men" before they can really be with their girlfriends, and the Chief has decreed they are to get married. The women have to do all the work, cooking, cleaning, carrying water, building a hut, while the men do absolutely nothing but walk around and lay in the shade. One couple is coming apart while the other couple is growing stronger, because the guy refuses to abide by the chief's law and instead helps his girlfriend as much as he is able to.

It really is an interesting reality bites type of show.

Hissy,
It would be interesting to note the reactions of the village women and men in reference to this: "while the other couple is growing stronger, because the guy refuses to abide by the chief's law and instead helps his girlfriend as much as he is able to"?

I wonder if the woman of the village are looking at their men now and saying, "hey, help me cook this rice like he does!" Or perhaps the village men are thinking this guy is a wimp...

I used to really enjoy this show, but they stopped offering the National Geographic Channel in my area. They literally offer it about 2 blocks over! I like it because you get to learn so much about the other culture and you also get to see the reaction of someone from our culture who is suddenly placed in theirs. It's amazing how much we take for granted and what we consider normal isn't at all the norm elsewhere.
Hey! I 've got it! How about if you record it for me and send me the tape!

That programme sounds good. We don't have it over here (as far as I know) probably people with satellite or cable can get it. I wouldn't like to live in that village unless I was married to the nice one.
