Hi everyone! We have a pair of 7 week old foster kittens a male and a female, they are eating hard food and doing great. Last night the little boy, Merlin, started trying to nurse off our 3 month old chi/eskie pup. Snoopy was rather confused to say the least. I seperated them 5 times before I took Merlin into the other room to see if he was hungry, nope, he came right back and started trying to nurse again. Suggestions? Why is he doing this? Snoopy is great with all the kittens but I am afraid if it keeps up he may end up disliking them.

They are trying to nurse from your pup because they see him as they would a mom-cat. He is probably just about the same size as an adult cat and is warm and furry. As they're fosters, you'll know that they were taken from or lost their mom too early, so they're looking for comfort in suckling. it's not unusual for a dog to let kittens suckle but yes, the pup is too young to know what's happening. As the article says, if they're trying to suckle on him around his genital area, it is dangerous for both the pup and kittens.
