Guess who I saw last night.

The Momma cat that I have been after.LOL.
I am unsure if this is the cat from a couple of years ago,but this is the first time I have saw her at my house. She had been hanging around at my neighbor's and also under an abandoned trailer.
I put the trap under the old trailer with no luck, but I only had it out a couple of nights.
The neighborhood tom(I am working on that also.lol.)brought her to the food last night.Well they ate a little and left.
Welllll, about 5 minutes later they came back with an addition.LOL.A little black kitten.
I think this is the only one she has left because we had a pit running around the neighborhood a few weeks ago and my neighbor told me that the dog got some of the kittens(the dog is gone now).

I knew there was a black kitten because another neighbor seen it under her trailer the other day.It looks to be 8 weeks or so.

The kitten was out eating right next to my door and I stepped out to see if I could grab it(I know,I know, probably not the smartest thing to do,but....LOL)When it seen me it jumped sideways and fluffed up at me,then it ran up in my yard and looked at me.I didn't want to scare it,so I just came back in so it could go back to eating.I swear though when it fluffed up it's hair like that at me I couldn't help but laugh at it,it was soooo cute.LOL.

So I made a trip to school and switched traps,we borrowed one from someone cause we have feral barn cats that we are tring to catch, and it is a better trap,so I will set it tonight and hope I catch this momma and baby.I can take her in for spay Thursday if I can catch her,so wish me luck.

Oh yeah on the feral barn cats at school,we caught one the other day and she got spayed and I took her to my uncle's barn.

I am going to try Hissy's recommendation on the litter in the bottom of the trap,so hopefully I can get this girl soon before she gets pregnant again if she isn't already.

You go girl! I have to laugh when I think of us trudging out with a live trap at night, looking for that perfect place where you think they are going to wander by, crawling under porches, trailers, thru thickets, pushing away cobwebs and hoping that a rodent or snake doesn't cross our paths......and all to rescue another cat! Some people call us crazy.....I think they are nuts! LOL

LOL.Yeah when I put the trap under the old trailer,I had to go through tall weeds and briars(sp?)and I had shorts on like an idiot. At least I did have permission from my neighbor's to go trudging around on their property.Well,I really didn't ask,I just told them what I was doing.LOL.

Yep,one of the neighbor's couldn't believe that I was trying to catch more cats, and my other neighbor told him that I wasn't catching them to put them in my house,I was just trying to get them so I could fix them and let them go.He probably still thinks I am nuts, but that's okay.LOL.

valanhb

Yeah poofed kitten was sooooo adorable, little fuzzy brat.LOL.

Thanks everyone for the support..I guess all the fingers crossed worked..Look here.

He is the neighborhood Tom that I have been trying to catch for a long time.He is the father to MANY kittens I am sure.I have a cat that looks JUST like him except for the half moustash(I have NO clue how to spell that lol).
Also I do know who he belongs to,but they won't neuter him,so I will. The way I see it is if the cat is in my yard it is fair game.Plus I am sick of him spraying on my front door.I can't even sit outside without smelling tom cat pee.Blech.
If they come looking for who did it.I plead the fifth.LOL.Actually they probably won't even notice that something is missing.
He got loose in my bathroom as I was putting him in a cage, but I wasn't as careful like I would be with a feral. He did run and jump on everything, but I went up to him and scruffed him and got him in the cage no problem.
So he has a nice bed in a big cage and will get neutered Thursday.Shhhhhhh.LOL.

LOL.Yeah that's what I will tell them.Hehe.

Honestly,I really don't think they will even notice.I heard that they don't even buy cat food for the poor guy, they feed him dog food.I guess that's why he comes here to eat all the time.

He has scratches all over his nose where he has been fighting.Poor guy.

Here are a couple of pics of my boy....Tell me what you all think...Do they look alike?lol.Aside from mine is a well taken care of housecat.LOL.

Look at the black and white boy on the bed...Notice the white spot on his bck??Well, this Tom cat(name is really Patches, but I have always called him Big Daddy)has a spot just like that on his back.

My boy again

So what do you all think???

I will try to get some better pics of both of their faces tomorrow.I swear they look sooooo much alike it isn't even funny.

Yeah I am so glad that he won't be able to mke any more babies.
The little feral girl I caught a few weeks ago,he was trying to mate her the night I caught her,Plus I saw him the other dya out here with her and he was trying to again, and she is spayed now.Ugh.

I surely hope there is not anymore like him out there.LOL.I have been after this boy ever since I moved here(5 years ago).I never tried trapping, but I have tried to get him to come to me because I knew he wasn't feral(after a while)

I was in there petting him(he is in a big cage with litterbox and food)and I could feel all the scratches on his body and it feels like he has an old absess wound on the side of his face.
I feel so sorry for this poor cat having to live like this all these years.
When he gets under anesthesia tomorrow I will get him looked over to see if there is anything that needs treated.
I am also going to attempt to give him some Pyrantel today.

He is being a good boy in the cage though,no meowing or trying to get out.

Yeah I forgot to tell you all that I had to unset the trap last night after I caught the Tom cat.
I had left it set in hopes of catching the mom or baby or both.Well I had already went to bed and I had to get up to go to the bathroom so I decided to check the trap just in case.

I looked out my window and there was my neighbor's dang GSD with his big head in the trap.
Needless to say I was a little ticked. So I went out and ran him off.He about couldn't get his head out so I was afraid he would come back and get his head stuck and carry the trap back home with him...then I would probably never see the trap again and I would have to replace it.

I just left the trap outside, but shut the door.I got up this morning and saw the trap was gone...I looked up in my yard and there it was.I guess that darn dog had came back and had pawed the cage up into my yard trying to get to the food.

I am going to have to try to figure out a way to get the trap tied down or just bring it in before I go to bed, which really stinks.

I wish people would keep their dogs in their own yard.Drives me crazy.
This dog comes up here ALL the time and gets into my cat food for the ferals.I have no way to keep it up and away from the dogs(and I swear I bet these people have like 15 dogs--no kidding),but this one and one other one of their's is the 2 I catch over here all the time.

Oh well, maybe the momma and baby will come to eat tonight and end up in the trap before I go to bed.

Is there any leash law at your location ? If so I would call and complaint about those dogs . Maybe there is a tree near by and you can tie the trap to that tree . I do have 3 dogs , but I don't much care about people letting their dogs run lose . You never know what a dog may can do , even if he/she knows you .

I am so glad that Tom cat is a good boy for you
. I wish you luck catching the girl and her kittens

Oh boy..On the leash law...Well,there actually IS one,BUT the cops will NOT enforce it.
See I am now on the animal control board for my county so I know more about how things work around here.
There is ONE officer that helps us out with animal related calls. She has to do them on her OWN time though, unless it is an emergency.
There are actually fines in place that the cops are supposed to be imposing but they are not and it is just one big screwed up mess.

Yeah I can't stand for people to let their dogs run loose in a neighborhood with a lot of people. It is one thing if you live out in the country with no neighbor's or very few that don't mind.
I do have a neighbor that has a chi that sometimes comes for a visit when he is let out to potty and I don't mind stuff like that,it is the one's tht are here ALL the time crapping in my yard and stuff that bugs me.I have them all afraid of me now though,as soon as I open the door they run.LOL.(Just a side note...I have never been mean to any of them.)

Anyway,I do have a tree fairly close by,but now that she knows where I put the food,I guess I am afraid she won't go to it,but I may just have to try that.

I checked on the Tom cat again and he has made a mess.LOL.I spoke too soon I guess. But that is okay.I have another big cage I will move him over into so I can clean the one he is in.He hissed at me too.I just left him alone and went back a few minutes later and he didn't hiss and I petted him.I don't completely trust him though, the way he looks at me makes me think he would bite or slap at any minute.LOL.Oh well, wouldn't be the first time and surely wouldn't be the last.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
You're a wonder!
The irresponsibility of others is just SO infuriating!!!!!!!!!

...and I'm sorry, but I had to laugh at the image/thought of your neighbor's dog running around with the trap on his head! THAT would teach them not to let their dogs roam!

It is very funny

But it is not funny if you can not find the trap again . I was laughing though , just the thought of the head stuck in the trap

Yeah it was pretty funny when I spooked him and he tried to hurry and get his head out and almost couldn't.LOL.
But I wouldn't have been laughing if he had started running home with that on his head. Those people are NUTS down there and I wouldn't want to go knocking on their door during the day let alone at midnight.

I guess I should have snapped a pic of the dog with his head stuck.LOL.I didn't know whether to laugh or cuss to be honest, but looking back remembering that trap on his head...it was funny.

I have a VERY heavy wooden doghouse right near where I have the trap set and I chained the trap to the doghouse,so hopefully it won't go anywhere, and hopefully that dog won't come back up here and get his head stuck and somehow destroy the trap.I really need to try to catch this cat and I am afraid that if I keep unsetting it when I go to bed I will miss her.

I just hope I don't recatch my already spayed feral..I don't want to scare the poor little thing to death.

I am off to bed,so hopefully I will at least wake up with the trap still there and intact.

Congrats on catching the Tom!! I also have a "tuxie-boy" that I've seen around here on and off for close to a year. He shows up about once every 3 weeks and by the time I get the trap out to catch him he is long gone - always leaving in a different direction each time.

GSD head in a trap - now that is a good visual! LOL
