I myself am practicing abstinance at the moment but would consider switching methods when the opportunity/necessity presents itself

When I was married, I had already been on the pill, as a treatment, for a few years, and it worked for us so we saw no need for more extreme measures (if it failed, it failed and we'd start a family) Now that I'm single again, I'm still on the pill but I would also insist on condoms until I could be certain of my partner's sexual history, etc.

Caspar's right, though, abstinance is a "method" few choose to exercise.
I've always assumed the term 'birth control' to mean a method to prevent pregnancies when you actually have the type of sexual contact with someone of the opposite gender which could result in one of the individuals becoming pregnant. If that's not the case, other forms of sexual contact between people of the opposite gender would qualify as 'birth control' along with 'abstinence'. Another example: if a woman has had a hysterectomy for medical reasons, she will have no need to 'birth control' in the future whether she engages in sex or 'abstains'.

I wouldn't know the answer to that...some people think that naming things is funny...

If they had, maybe they'd still be in business!

You know that is the odd thing....your menstrual cycle really is your friend. During the years you are menstruating the hormones you produce protect you from heart attack, osteoporosis ( a killer disease), excessive body hair and more. Maybe we need a more positive attitude toward it. Yeah It's no picnic and it's an inconvience but...that's a pretty good friend if ya ask me! I'm goning to miss it when it's gone. I don't want a broken hip...60% of people (mostly women) die within 6 months of breaking their hips and after menopause, we catch up with men in the heart attack race!

Or one of you could be sterile....................
Nope, neither of us is sterile. We just know what we're doing.

Rob, and his brother were, well accidental. His mom was on the pill both times and his father used condoms. His mother is the head of Uniontown Hospital's Ob/gyn department, so I would say they were exceptionally careful of using birth control. However, twice, not once but twice, she got pregnant while using the pill and condoms. Because of this, I have my doubts about the effectiveness of all birth control.

I haven't had time to read the whole thread but just because it looks like a meathod is working doesn't mean it is. My husband and I always used the withdraw meathod and I thought worked wonderful, used it for five years as bc and no pregancy....
of course now I have been trying to get preggers for two years with no luck!!!! So it is likly that it working so well had nothing to do with the fact that it worked and more to do with us just not being able to get pregant.

Just feel as if I have to put my nurse's cap on here for a minute (where is that darn thing anyway). No offense to you Princess Purr, I hope you get pregnant ASAP...try not to worry...get checked if you think you need to..and your husband. But to the young and unexperienced here...withdrawal is not a BC method. Just before a man ejaculates, he emits a pre ejaculate, that contains plently of sperm to make a baby. And sometimes in the heat of the moment shall we say, he does not withdraw soon enough, or spills semen around the enterence of the vagina...those guys can't see, but they are Olympic swimmers! So forget the withdrawal "method".

Secondly, I see very few people stating they uses a condom. Thats fine in a long term relationship...where you are 200% sure you and your partner are faithful...but...
AIDS is a becoming a huge problem among, non IV drug using heterosexual women...I believe the fastest growing group. If your guy hates condoms, how about the female condom...my clients really like them. If I find a site, I'll post info/picture. Even if you are not worried about AIDS (????) Chalamydia is the # 1 STD now...and Syphilis has made a glorious comeback.

Remember, you may trust your partner, but can you trust every partner they have ever been with, and they have ever been with, and they have ever been with...and so on?

Get tested for HIV and STDS at least yearly or as per you healthcare provider.

I was watching a show the other night on The Life Network (Don't know if you get it in the states) but it was all about oral sex and they had 4 men and 4 women on it and they were asked about techniques and things like that and what one person liked better and so on (okay I can't believe I just admitted I watch sex shows!!) anyway to get to the point and there is one, the hosts asked the people if they used protection when preforming oral and the all said no, then they went out in the street and asked a whole bunch of people and it came back that, oral sex isn't considered actual sex so no they don't use protection. I think they actual numbers from the streets were for every 5 out of 6 people asked 5 didn't use protection. It just boggled my mind. Don't these people know that stds and HIV/Aids can be transmitted through the mouth as well as the usual parts?

Every time my boyfriend and I had sex, we used a condom as well as the pill, even my mom and dad (YUCK to even think about this) who have been married for almost 22 years still use a condom (My mom and I are very open with each other. 'nuff said)

Anyway not exactly on topic, but I didn't want to start a new thread.

Princss Purr, sending vibes to you and our husband.

KitKatz, So glad you brought up oral sex. That show was right on the money...that's one reason STD rates are sky high. Dental Dams are starting to be sold in stores, or you can make them yourself with a condom. The risk without it is sooo high. I remember how hard it was to tell a young girl she was pregnant..now that's a piece of cake, when you're telling them now you're HIV positive.

I voted "other". I had a tubal 4 years ago due to the fact that my oldest was conceived while I was on the pill and my youngest was a depo conception. Both were taken on time and were up to date, but didn't work for me. I always say--once I figured out what caused it I got it fixed! Sometimes I wish I hadn't decided to make it so permanent, but then I go home for a few hours and the regret fades pretty fast.
