Paige was being a little too.. pointy yesterday, so without a time where she's particularly sedate, I decided that she needed a trim. I set her in hte bathroom for a few minutes to calm her down (she was running about trying to snag my legs, so she needed a time out anyhow) and then when she was good and quiet, I grabbed her up with a towel, and ...well it took a while but eventually I had a cat burrit, and so long as I was cradling her and petting her nose she was good.. and then the left front paw came and she was like.. "alright you got all the others, but these 5 are mine!" so with a little more ado and some unhappiness she got the last paw trimmed(but she was dead set on not cooperating on that.. tried to keep her toes turned under). but because she did do so well considering it was her 1st time (IE she didn't squirm while we were trimming, and she didn't bite or try scratching, I don't think she's ever had them short, because she's confused about them0 she got lost of treats afterwards.

I find it works best with 2 people trimming.. one tohold and try to confort her.. (she's not at all happy being upside down..) and the other to trim them. I daresay jason did a good job though.
I can't wait to see how much work the soft claws will be.

Good Job!!! I can't get Bella to even let me touch her paws, let alone trim her nails!

Romeo may be another story though. (he's the stray I took in over the weekend - his story is here ) Before he gets to feeling too much better, I'm planning on sitting with him tonight and taking the edge off his meat hooks, so his kneading isn't so painful for me! I'm planning on fostering him until I can adopt him out, so I'm not worried about turning him loose without weapons

You did better than I did! I tried Pookie for the first time last night, and after getting him all happy in the bathroom, I started to try and make a Pookie burrito...I got a taco. And something that looked a lot like a tostada with blood dressing. But that burrito was dang hard to make!!

I WOULD NOT let me get his hind legs. I have no one to help me, so I just gave up on them, but I got his front claws and he was actually ok with that. But as soon as I tried to let him out of the tortilla/towel, he clawed the heck out of me!!
Then he ignored me for the entire duration of Law and Order.

Finally, he jumped up on the sofa beside me and turned his belly up and did his loud, "MOOOOOOOOW?" (I think it's his Turkish accent cuz he can't say, 'mEow'). I gave him loads of snuggles, but I still felt guilty for putting him through that!

poor little button, lol Paige sems more inclined to lose her backs than her fronts actually.... she was like.. "nyooooooo" (she knows how to say now very well it actually sounds like no.. sometimes when jason no's her she no's back at him.) and wasn't about to let me take her front paws..
I really suggest finding a friend that doesn't mind helping you bundle him up... and one of you soothe him, do something he likes, like ears.. and the other can pop his foot out and push the pads out and do some quick snips.. they don't seem able to fel it so much.
That's not to say iI have the balls to try for molly, considering I'm recoverin from an infection on my hand from her yesterday.. Isopropryl alcohol seems to help as much as peroxide without eating too much skin.

LOL! I had a cat who sounded like he was saying "NOOOOOO", too! Too funny

Poor Molly. Have you looked for a holistic vet yet? I know this one near us is amazing. Can you even be in the same room with her and just read a book aloud or something?

In taking all six of my babies to the vet in the last month each of them got a nail trimming and they all did almost exactly what you're describing... They were fine on the first 3 paws, but by the 4th paw they had had enough! Audrey even went so far as to spray her scent on the vet!!! It was kinda funny and embarassing, I didn't know cats could do that and I certainly never figured Audrey to be the one of my cats to do it! Most of them just Yowled or Hissed at the vet.

I bought a pair of nail cutters but they turned out to be just a little too big for my hands. So, last night I picked up a smaller pair and I trimmed Isabelle's front nails today and she was real good about it! I was amazed! And the new clippers fit perfectly in my hand so I'm real comfortable with them too. I think I'll be doing this a lot more often!

Grissom is surprisingly calm about nail clipping. His front ones at least. The people who had him before he ended up at the shelter must have clipped them, becuase he was very comfortable with the process. I didn't wrap him in a towel. He was laying on the bed and all i did was pick up a paw and trim. He's such a good kitty.

Ahhh nail trimming. Miikka really doesnt like that, so I tend to get her nails right after a cat nap when she is still groggy. She lets me do my best work then

Paige seems to be instantly awake.. Maybe I can get her after a good read next time I trim her. the Reading seems to really calm them both down so much I maybe could have trimmed molly tonight, but you know.. I don't want to ruin the good vibes we've got now.

If I want Miikka to go to sleep all I have to do is open up my laptop on the couch and start reading Internet forums such as TCS or computer forums and she is out like a light in my arms.

I had to swap vet appointments between Clarence and Casey so I could put Casey in the cat carrier while he was still groggy.
I haven't even tried trimming Casey's nails! We're working on regular brushings right now. Once he graduates from that, then we'll start working on nail trimmings. One thing at a time I keep telling myself!
