Hmm, I have to say I never heard of yellow flies. I guess that is one good thing about living up north in the cold and snow, no yellow flies

Actually, I have never heard of yellow flies either but we have enough other pests in the north to hate. To me, horse flies are the worst and I agree with Kellye that I'm scared to go swimming at the cottage because of them. You can actually go under the water and the fly will still keep biting you under the water!!

I also hate mosquitoes and black flies. When I come back from the cottage during the spring season, I look like I have a disease because of the amounts of bites.

Let's face it, yellow or not, I hate all flies!

Is it normal for them to hurt that bad? If the swelling and pain isn't gone by Monday at the latest, you might need to get it checked out. I wonder if you be allergic to them, like some people are to bees...

I got bit twice , one is on my left foot by the ankle and this one is doing much better . But the one bite in my inner right thigh is really bad . My son said , maybe it was a spider and not a yellow flie . But it don't look like a spider bite . I just know that I am in pain when I walk more then 4 steps . Gosh I hope it is better by Monday , I have to work on that day and need the money .

My next door neighbor is highly allergic to the yellow flies , she has to go to the hospital if one gets a hold of her
. She was sitting outside this morning so I went and told her that those darn flies are around , I think it was the fasted run for the house I have ever seen on her LOL .

This is the first time I've ever heard of or seen yellow flies. I don't think we have them in California. However, we do have a bug that's much worse than any fly and that's a cockroach. Man, I hate those ugly things.

It was nice of you to warn her
Just keep a good eye on it. I hope it gets better by Monday also. I know it sucks to miss work but take care of yourself. I am not trying to worry you, it just seems odd to me that it would be this bad and even hurt you to walk. Maybe you could even call the pharmacist and ask them what they suggest you put on it?

Please go to the Doctor or Emergency Room as fast as you can. I was once bitten by a spider on my leg, and it ended up that the venom was in my blood stream. It hurt me to walk, and in fact I screamed in pain when I dropped a potato chip on my leg.

If you start to feel feverish - go to the doctor right away. I ended up spending a couple of weeks in the hospital, with my spider bite.

Hmmm, very interesting since most spiders bites in this country are harmless, unless it is a black widow or brown recluse. I don't think there is any part of this world that does not have roaches. Those things will still be around even when everything else is gone

I hate when flies pester me. Bugs do not bother me, in fact I have tarantulas as pets, but I hate when flies try to bite, even more than mosquitoes. I love to hike in the woods, but deer flies always pester me. They buzz your head and quietly land on my back. The next thing I know they are biting me. I feel bad for the deer that have to put up with that all summer long.

Why would you want a tarantula as a pet! I couldn't even sleep if I knew one was in my house! Do you ever hold them, or do you just look at them?!

Heidi- How is your bite today?

Thanks squirtle
a lot better and it is not hurting like it was , still a little swollen . But I am ok now
Thanks for asking

A tarantula will not bite you if you are calm and also good pets
. It would not be my type of pet , but they are really good as pets as far as I know . You can let it walk up your arm and body and it will not bite you . Really . I have watched a show on TV about them a while back , otherwise I would not know

We have spiders here they are called jump spiders and they will bite you and have had a couple of bites from them befor .
Oh yes , we have them ugly roaches too
. My husband said that in Texas they are really huge there , so I make sure I will not visit Texas LOL

EWWW! I hate spiders. I would never even consider purposely having one in my house, much less walk up my arm, just the though gives me goosebumps. I really think I am arachnaphobic (sp) I get goose bumps when I see a spider and REFUSE to get close enough to kill it

Hmmm, I guess I could ask why anyone would want fish as pets.
Actually, tarantuals make very good pets and they come in some very beautiful colors. One of the most beautiful is the Cobalt Blue tarantula. Yes, that spider did get it's name from the color. When in a low light area, the spider looks black. But put it under sunlight or any other bright light and you have a bright blue spider!
I normally do not hold them, because it can be dangerous to the spider should they fall.

Those of you who live in Australia and Minnesota count your blessings, but I bet you Minnesotans know about black flies. I don't live in Georgia, but we have them where I live. Tis the season for them. I had the misfortune, while weedeating recently to cut the controller wires on my heatpump. I spent several hous in the hot sun repairing the air conditioner wires, all the while being eat up by biting horse flies.I had to cover myself with a heavy long-sleeved sweatshirt and ball cap. Talk about working in a steam bath. It was either that or get eaten alive. Now my wife is happy and cool, and I am scratching the fly bites.

I just found a pic of one here: http://www.bighairyspiders.com/cobalt.shtml
While I will admit that it looks cool, I just couldn't get close to one. They are so scary. I think I would pass out if one got on me. You have a good point about the fish, but I am not scared of those, they couldn't escape from their cage somehow and crawl on me

I have never had one escape. They all have locking lids on their cages. Most of my spiders come from the tropics, so they get huge. The largest, is the Goliath Bird eater. This spider did not get it's name becaue it eats birds, but it darn well could, it got it's name from its very large size. When mature, these spiders can get a leg span of 10 to 12 inches, or the size of a dinner plate or an LP record, for those of you who remember what those are
