Is it common for a first litter of a young cat (11 months) to be dry? Our feral cat had a litter this afternoon but she appears to be milkless.

Yes, sometimes this happens if the 'let down' hormones don't swing into action to produce milk. You'll know if the kittens are hungry because they'll root around looking for milk, be anxious and cry constantly. If she has no milk, you will need to take the kittens from her so they don't starve to death. You can then hand-raise them or pass them on to a rescue organisation. If they haven't had any milk, you'll need to give them Pedialyte before you do anything else. Click here to learn how.

That link is part of a web site, www.kitten-rescue.com where you'll find all the information you need about hand-raising kittens.

Thanks Tania, my vet has them right now. He thought they were really tiny so he kept them in last night. He said that is what it appeared like but he hadn't fully checked them out when I left them last night. I'm at work right now so I'll have to wait untill after to see what is what. I had been up for almost the whole 24 hours when I wrote that last night and I wasn't thinkiing too straight or I would have put that the vet had them.
