Hi, I can recommend some brands known for not using colorings, flavorings, preservatives such as bha/bht/ethoxyquin...and I believe these to be fairly free of fillers (if by that you mean by-products, soy products, etc.).Originally Posted by klcrooks
Can anyone recommend a food (or a place to start researching) that is low in fillers and high in protien? I'd really like to start looking into these and switch our cats over to one.
Thanks!
I love the ingredients in Active Life, as do my kitties; it is one extremely popular and sometimes hard to find food.Originally Posted by nern
I really like Active Life. Nature's Variety is another good canned food.
This is an excellent site for folks with diabetic cats too...I use their food lists for my diabetic fellow, Tyler.Originally Posted by zanniesmom
There is a website that has most dry foods listed by the percent of calories from protein, fat and carbs. Then at the bottom of the page is a link to canned foods. From this site I picked out Wellness canned for my kitties as a very low carb diet. It is also made with human grade ingredients. Becky

Canned food is generally high in protein and low in carbs. I live in Sweden and the cannes food that I feed my cats (occasionally, I mostly make my own cat food) contains 58% protein, 28% fat, less than 10% carbs (I don't remember the exact number) and the rest is vitamins, minerals etc. It doesn't contain any flavorings or preservatives. I would recommend something similiar. When it comes to dry food you'll never get away from the fact that it is full of carbs.Originally Posted by klcrooks
