I got some Grapefruit Seed Extract for the girls to help fight their infections & possibly prevent future infections. I don't know how much to give them in their water though. I have a one gallon Bistro water container...if that helps any.

Any ideas? Suggestions?

BTW, I'm taking this stuff too & so far the allergies haven't kicked my butt too much. Usually I get upper resp. infections from all the drainage & etc, so I'm hoping that this stuff will help with that too.

Many thanks!

Ooh, yes, I would like to know more about this, as well. I've been thinking of supplementing Stinky cat's diet with this to help stave off any lurking virus in our house....Is it like eccinachea (sp?) where you shouldn't take it while healthy, only when having symptoms, or is it good to take all the time as prevention?
Thanks!

Thanks! I really appreciate it!

Do you say 8 drops because Echo is heavier than the norm or is that standard? I just don't want to see other members over dosing their babes because mine are chub's!

I am going by your overly roly poly sweet hearts- average cat weight in a gallon of water is about 4-5 drops (stir well)

LMAO! RolyPoly!
I'm afraid Echo would hurt me if I called her that...I'm already pushing it with "Pleasantly Plump"!

BTW, Tiki weighs 7.5 pounds...this shouldn't be too much for her would it?

Sorry to bug ya with all the questions tonight!

I'm curious about this. Is this being used to keep your cats drinking water cleaner or to clean things out of your cats system?

This is from http://www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/ :

"Grapefruit Seed Extract(GSE) is a broad spectrum, non-toxic, antimicrobial product derived from the seeds, pulp and white membranes of grapefruit. In hundreds of laboratory tests, GSE has demonstrated its ability to kill or inhibit the growth of a wide array of potentially harmful bacteria, fungi, viruses and protozoan parasites.

The American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association now boasts over 500 members as an ever increasing number of veterinarians incorporate holistic health concepts into their practices. Many of these physicians have experienced the same excellent results with GSE as reported in human health care. Consider the words of Stephen Blake, DVM of San Diego, California. “I have found it (GSE) effective in the treatment of Giardia, ear infections and superficial pyoderma (skin infections). I have also used GSE to purify meat so that I can feed my patients raw meat and not worry about food poisoning. I have used GSE for canker sores, gum infections and tonsilitis in animals, as for breeding horses to prevent infection and to prevent foot rot in horses.â€

Philadelphia veterinarian, Dr Deva Kaur Khalsa, has used GSE extensively in her holistic practice. Because ear infections in cats, when caused by fungus, can prove highly resistant to treatment, Dr Khalsa was particularly interested in GSEâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]s antifungal properties. She says, “GSE has proven itself to be extremely dependable and effective while adhering to the criteria of a natural, non-toxic modality.

Now that many professional have found GSE beneficial to cats, dogs, birds and farm animals, we are hearing reptile and amphibian enthusiasts asking how GSE might be of use to the furless, featherless crowd. It has long been known that pet turtles harbor salmonella, a bacteria that not only threatens the animal, but humans as well. Since GSE is effective against salmonella in a laboratory setting, GSE as a treatment for reptiles is an exciting possibility for those concerned with our shell-toting friends." There are many herbs and essential oils that kill enterococcus, staphylococcus and other bacteria as well as viruses, which antibiotics are unable to treat. One of the most popular is grapefruit seed extract, or GSE, made from the seeds and connecting tissue of citrus fruit. Grapefruit seed extract(GSE) is being used to kill bacteria like Strep, Staph, Salmonella, E. Coli, and also to fight Candida, Herpes, Influenza, parasites, fungi and traveler's diarrhea. This has been proven in laboratories all over the world, and is supported by feedback from doctors, veterinarians, farmers and consumers. Non-toxic, biodegradable, economical, with no harmful side-effects

Tania, thanks very much for posting that link, I found all sorts of neat things out there, like a water distiller. I'm going to pick up a bottle of GSE tonight and see if my cats will drink water with a little bit of it mixed in. I have two water fountains, so I'll keep the one upstairs regular and put some in the one downstairs and see what happens. I'm hoping it'll help keep their water a more germ free than the filter in the fountain does.
