I guess this is kind of a dumb question but how much do you pay to have your cats teeth cleaned? The vet I was referred to charges $100. Maybe I am wrong but that seems like quite a bit for teeth cleaning. Just curious.

Also, my cats teeth are terrible and his breath really smells bad. I adopted him that way and they told me his teeth were fine. Well they obviously aren't just fine. The first vet I took him to told me what could happen if his teeth aren't cleaned. I can't remember what he said. Something about his kidneys or liver or something. He was peeing a bit outside the litterbox and I thought he might have had a UTI, but the vet checked his teeth and said it all leads back to that. Does anyone know what I am talking about?

$100 sounds inexpensive to me... At my vet it's a minimum of $200. $100 for the bloodwork and to knock her out and $100 for the cleaning itself depending on how bad the teeth are the cleaning may cost even more.

Yeah, $100 seems cheap to me too! Where I work it is around $200 too. Unless there are extractions, and then it is more!

It does typically require anesthesia, which is what really makes it so expensive. And trust me, you don't want to bargain hunt when it comes to anesthesia!

Bacteria from bad teeth can enter the cat's bloodstream and effect vital organs such as the kidneys and liver. This is just my opinion, but since your cat had bad teeth when you adopted him, and you have noticed some litter box problems, you might want to have some pre-anesthesia blood work done to determine how well your cat's liver and kidneys are functioning.

The veterinary clinic I use is a small rural clinic and it's quite reasonable. The last time I took a cat in to have his teeth cleaned it cost me about $130, and this price includes the cost of the anesthesia and the optional pre-anesthesia bloodwork.

I'm in a rural area, so costs are lower here than for most. I had Purdy's teeth cleaned in March. The cost was $89. However, the doctor recommended that he be sent home with an antibiotic after the treatment; that was an additional $18. So the total was $107.
